About the role
We are seeking a Senior Advisor to join Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s (RTIO) Business Analysis & Strategy Team. In this diverse and high-impact role you will play a key role in shaping the future of our business by delivering data-driven financial insights, providing strategic and commercial guidance, and influencing and evaluating critical investment decisions.
Working across a broad stakeholder group, you will evaluate major capital projects, conduct industry and competitor analysis, and contribute to the development and refinement of RTIO’s corporate strategy. The Business Analysis & Strategy team is in the privileged position of working closely with senior leadership to drive long-term value creation. Reporting to the Manager Business Analysis & Strategy, you will:

Assess major investments: Evaluate and influence major investment proposals, including preparing proposals for the Investment Committee and Board.

Evaluate project viability: Partner with the business to assess the economic viability of projects through discounted cash flow analysis; identifying key drivers and optimisation opportunities.

Review investment decisions: Provide recommendations on capital expenditure, major operating cost decisions and post investment reviews.

Develop investment proposals: Prepare clear, compelling business cases and presentation materials that communicate strategic recommendations and secure stakeholder alignment or funding approval.

Support capital planning: Contribute to planning and capital management processes, including prioritisation of sustaining capital projects.

Provide operational support: Deliver commercial and analytical insights to support operational leadership teams.

Define strategic options: Identify strategic pathways and develop actionable recommendations to support decision-making.

Deliver our strategy: Develop and drive Rio Tinto’s progress against key strategic initiatives, proactively identifying key trade-offs and framing critical strategic decisions for consideration.

Apply industry insight: Leverage understanding of market dynamics and industry trends to inform strategic choices.

Conduct industry research: Conduct deep research, including industry and competitor analysis.

Leverage AI: Use AI tools with the ability to adapt to a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Prioritise team safety: Demonstrate a strong commitment to personal and team safety.
What you’ll bring
This is a great opportunity for an ambitious, proactive professional with strong commercial acumen and the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels. The successful candidate will have:

A tertiary qualification in a Business, Finance or Technical discipline.

5+ years of experience in finance within a large industrial organisation, professional services firm or management consultancy.

Strong grounding in financial concepts, especially valuation and financial modelling.

The ability to translate complex data into clear actionable business insights.
-
A curious and strategic mindset with an outcomes focused approach to problem solving.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distil complex information into concise, executive presentations and papers.

Proven stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, including the ability to influence and build rapport across all levels of the organisation.

Sound values with high business integrity.
It will also be beneficial if you have:

Post-graduate qualifications in Finance, MBA or equivalent.

Resource sector experience, including involvement in projects and studies.

Where you'll be working
This role is based in Perth, at our head office in Central Park, working Monday to Friday.
In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Rio Tinto operates a world class, integrated iron ore network comprising 16 mines, four port terminals, a 1,700-kilometre rail network and related infrastructure. This infrastructure enables us to respond rapidly to global demand and positions Rio Tinto as one of the world's leading producers and exporters of iron ore.
