About the role
We are looking for a Resource Geology Specialist to join the Winu Development team, supporting the safe and effective delivery of field programmes at the Winu Copper Project.
You’ll bring strong technical, operational and leadership experience, contributing to multi-faceted programmes, mentoring junior geologists and playing a key role in contractor and service provider management.
The Winu Development team supports and delivers technical outcomes across resource development and exploration assessment for Rio Tinto’s Winu Copper project in the Paterson region of Western Australia. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the team assesses, evaluates and progresses Winu into a world‑class copper deposit, ensuring all workstreams are well coordinated and aligned to broader development plans.
This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to copper development and build knowledge in narrow vein orebody systems. This role is offered on a 15 days on, 13 days off roster, fly-in fly-out from Perth.
Reporting to the Superintendent Resource Geology and working in a dynamic and exciting environment, you will be:

Leading a team of geologists and field technicians, demonstrating strong visible leadership in the field

Assisting with the design and execution of multi-disciplinary drill programmes and exploration and evaluation activities for the risk management of resources and reserves including grade, metallurgical, geotechnical, environmental and hydrogeological activities

Promoting teamwork and effective communication within Resource Development and external teams

Overseeing the accurate collection of downhole geophysical data to support geological interpretation

Ensuring compliance with all standards, procedures and QA/QC requirements related to data collection and field work

Supporting the development of capability in GIS mapping, 3D-modelling and geophysical interpretation

Providing leadership and support for contractor management through regular reviews and feedback

Support the Senior Geologist directly through both reporting and step-up opportunities
About you

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

An interest in developing technical expertise in the Paterson region and sediment-hosted copper deposit styles

A solid understanding of resource geology, including drill programme design and execution, QA/QC and compliance protocols

Demonstrated leadership capability, with a focus on mentoring, teamwork and values‑based leadership aligned to Rio Tinto

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Competence in GIS and 3D geological modelling software

A collaborative mindset, with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams, service providers and third‑party contractors

Where you’ll be working
Winu is a 100% Rio Tinto owned copper-gold mineralisation project in the Yeneena Basin of the Paterson Province in Western Australia. The project is located approximately 130 km north of the Telfer mine and 350 km southeast of Port Hedland. Teams at Winu are taking an agile approach to greenfield project development and being innovative in the way we bring a mine from exploration to production.
