The Data Steward is responsible for leading and supporting data management practices to create sustainable value from data for our business. They play a key role in advancing data curation and interoperability capabilities through the development and upkeep of a dataset catalogue, master and reference data management solution, and an associated governance framework.
Reporting to the Manager, Information Systems and Governance and working in a collaborative community, your responsibilities will include:

Develop and maintain a fit-for-purpose governance framework across the data landscape.

Work with data owners to apply governance framework and promote use of tools to measure and improve data quality. This will help ensure that consistent and systematic metadata are attached to exploration data, information and documents.

Develop and maintain a master reference and data solution for the business. Work with SMEs to maintain a library of standard terms which will help promote data interoperability and enable team members to find and analyse content

Work with the Regional Data and Information Manager to train exploration and support teams in systems, data and information management practices, policies, and processes.

Facilitate discovery and access to new data, sourcing from external parties and ensuring freshness. Curate, annotate, and publish high-value datasets for consumption by geoscientists and data scientists. This can include helping to coordinate data cleansing and data harmonisation

Provide updates to stakeholders when high value datasets are updated or new information that might lead to discovery is published.

Plan and conduct work in accordance with all HSEC, D&I, and compliance policies by setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met and anticipating and managing risks.

Liaise regularly with regional teams and global SMEs to source useful datasets and to understand requirements and services which will accelerate accessing and analysing high-quality geoscientific technical data and information.

Work closely with global teams to implement standards, ensure compliance and promulgate best practice as business as usual within the region.

Maintain a current knowledge of modern data governance principles and data & information management practices that have the potential to improve the effectiveness of exploration teams.
What you will bring:

Solid understanding of earth sciences and the minerals exploration, with the ability to relate process and science to the data that the business captures, manages, and analyzes.

In-depth knowledge of data governance principles and implementation strategies, along with an appreciation of the technical systems and data management tools to which data governance will apply.

Advanced technical skills with achievement in the following:
-
managing and maintaining information systems or data repositories
-
using system or database knowledge to query various datasets (e.g. SPO, acQuire)
-
applying records management principles and practices, including classification
-
(Advanced scripting or programming capability is desirable)

Well-developed communication and influencing skills, with experience working in a global cross-cultural environment.

Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to best use available resources, prioritize work, and manage competing demands from multiple stakeholders.

The ability to work collaboratively with a range of leaders, professional and technical staff to achieve customer focused outcomes.
