About the role
Join our collaborative, values driven team, as Senior Engineer – Development Engineering and lead the pre-construction technical and engineering activities for renewable energy projects, including wind, solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about renewable energy and sustainability to collaborate with Product Groups, Cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver a meaningful impact in renewable energy generation capacity.
This position is based in Salt Lake City, United States and reports through to the Engineering Manager. In this interesting and varied role, your key responsibilities will be to;
- Provide preliminary and basic design for wind/solar/BESS and substation
- Conduct energy production simulation, analysis, and optimization (PVSyst, WindPro, Openwind, Plantpredict). Integration with BESS.
- Evaluate and select Technology and suppliers for PV, wind, BESS, innovative energy generation and storage technologies
- Prepare Scope of Work and Requests for proposal for engineering services; site due diligence and assist with grid interconnection and/or integration
- Electrical, civil and structural design review
- Assist with external negotiations to deliver best-in-class renewable energy outcomes across our assets (EPC, OEM, and suppliers, Grid operators, developers)
- Design and implementation of weather monitoring and measurement campaigns
- Field quality control, field punch list development and development of commissioning and performance testing plans
- Work with grid and utility services teams to ensure seamless project integration in micro-grids
- Accurate and timely assessment of development issues, risks, and opportunities
About you
- A strong commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Relevant experience in renewable energy, including development, design, engineering, or analysis of PV, wind, and BESS larger than 10MW
- Professional Engineer license desired
- Strong understanding of renewable energy system design, including interpreting and developing single-line and three-line diagrams, applying NEC standards for conductor sizing and overcurrent protection, specifying utility disconnects and equipment, implementing grounding strategies, and performing short circuit current analysis.
- Sound understanding of Scada systems used in renewable energy projects
- Experience in using PVsyst, WindPro, AutoCAD, PVCase, plantpredict or equivalent.
- Experience with medium voltage and high voltage interconnection design including transformer specifications, pad-mounted switchgear and pole-mounted equipment
- Sound computer coding skills in R/Python to analyze large datasets
- Engineering Procurement and Construction contract support experience
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills with the ability to engage and negotiate with a variety of cross-disciplinary stakeholders
- Strong analysis and presentation skills and proficiency in MS Excel and MS PPT
