Perth based with flexible working
A rare leadership opportunity to be part of Long Term Planning. The Long Term Planning team will lead Strategic Asset Planning 4.0, where there is opportunity to create a global benchmark in strategic asset planning. The team will develop and employ a centralised asset planning framework (people, process, systems and structures) using the latest planning support technologies (AMT, WOL models), which will be tightly integrated with engineering/asset data (digital assets) and operations.
About the role
We have a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced maintenance planning and budgeting leader to lead strategic innovation in our long-term planning technology, processes and capability. You’ll be deploying a world-first solution and processes that will radically enhance planning and budgeting processes and increase value delivery across Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s (RTIO) 16 mines, privately owned and operated rail network and four independent ports.
Our asset management and engineering services team operates as a centralised maintenance planning function for our RTIO operational partners and as the Superintendent Long-term Planning, you will lead a team of long-term planners, each accountable for the delivery of specific long-term plans, shut forecasts and budgets to our mining and port plant operations across the Pilbara.
You’ll need to utilise your outstanding ability to partner with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including site based operational and maintenance leaders, finance and risk advisors, and asset management service providers to deliver plans that optimise cost and risk to meet prevailing business objectives.
With support from the Principal, Long Term Planning, your role will:
-
Oversee, build and strategize long-term asset budget forecasts that optimise risk while meeting business objectives
-
Work closely with engineering teams and sites to ensure that the zero-based long-term plans align with the standardised whole of life cost models
-
Liaise with logistics and asset health teams to ensure that long-lead items and resources are provisioned and budgeted
-
Work closely with operations and site short term planning teams to enable operationalization of long term plans, budgets into short term and shut plans at a quarterly cadence
-
Analyse the conformance of maintenance execution with maintenance plans to identify improvement opportunities and work with asset data, engineering and finance teams throughout the change management process
-
Integrate the long-term plans for each operation into their respective Fixed Asset maintenance shutdown calendars
-
Optimise our Maintenance Strategies
-
Identify cost reduction measures within the business
-
Provide input into the asset performance and planning process regarding Fixed Asset Schedule Loss forecasts and optimization
In addition to the above, you will also play a role in contributing to the continuous improvement of the long-term planning and Whole of life asset and life cycle cost processes, in collaboration with our engineering, operations and vendor partners.
About you
You are an experienced maintenance planning leader and excited by the challenge of working across an operation of this scale and complexity. You will have working experience of mineral processing and Fixed Plant/ Infrastructure assets. You will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills and a solid understanding of the current planning and budgeting technologies available and have demonstrated performance in asset life cycle planning, financial and risk analysis.
Previous experience working in a mining operation is not essential – we appreciate experience gained through leading similar function in other related industries; including but not limited to defence, aviation, logistics and other resource sectors. A tertiary qualification in a related discipline will also be highly regarded.
Where you will be working
You will be working at our state-of-the-art Operations Centre (OC) located near the Perth domestic airport. You can also expect the occasional meeting at our head office located at Central Park Building in Perth CBD, with site travel required from time-to-time.
In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, Rio Tinto operates the world's largest integrated portfolio of iron ore assets with industry-leading margins. Our premium product suite, including our flagship Pilbara blend, drives strong customer relationships and is supported by technical and commercial marketing expertise. The iron ore business continues to be the world's largest autonomous truck operator and a proud leader in automated mining technologies.
