Rio Tinto is entering an exciting new phase with the expansion of our Amrun operations on Cape York, in Far North Queensland. With feasibility study now secured, the project – known as Kangwinan, represents the next major chapter in our commitment to responsible mining in the Western Cape.
As we move into the feasibility study and early works, we are seeking a seasoned Manager – Health, Safety and Environment to direct support the Kangwinan Project, manage the HSE planning to support execution readiness and lead a team of professionals responsible for Health, Safety and Environment. The role will commence in our Brisbane office, provide support for all front-end project HSE planning, before transitioning to project site to support field execution.
Reporting directly to the HSE Business Partner Projects and working with a global, collaborative team, you will:

Manage the HSE requirements for the Kangwinan project.

Lead the development of the Health, Safety and Environment strategy.

Ensure a cooperative and productive working relationship with representatives from HSE Product Groups, AoE’s, Regional HSE Hubs and delivery partners.

Ensure project activities remain compliant with agreed Company HSSE Contract minimum requirements.

Provide feedback and input into the effectiveness of HSE processes, policies, programmes, and systems to the organisation.

Ensure robust HSE targets and metrics are in place, actively monitored and reported in accordance with agreed requirements.

Work closely with leadership, external affairs, communications, and studies to ensure integration of commitments, identified risks, and strategy into overall business planning.

Build capability and oversee the delivery of critical support services such as Emergency Response, Medical Services across project locations.
What you’ll bring
-
Extensive experience in the development of large-scale projects working in complex and dynamic social and political environments.

Extensive experience in the resource sector navigating through complex project execution strategies including experience across brownfield projects
-
Strong leadership ability to develop highly effective internal relationships and guide staff and external resources with demonstrated ability to collaborate well with multiple and varied business partners.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, translating technical information for the target audience.

Excellent negotiation and influencing skills, and confidence to operate at all levels of the business.

Proficient in managing complex and sensitive issues with detailed reputation management experience.

Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with local, national and regional stakeholder groups.

Tertiary degree qualification in Safety / Health, Environment would be highly desirable
