About the role
We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Fixed Plant Reliability Engineer to join our inclusive and diverse Maintenance Planning & Engineering (MP&E) Team. This unique role will allow you to ensure the safety, reliability, maintenance and performance of Fixed Plant mechanical and rotating equipment.
The role is FIFO from Perth to our Gudai-Darri Operations working a 5:2 / 4:3 roster. Reporting to the MP&E Engineering Superintendent, you will be responsible for the below duties :

Demonstrating strong safety leadership by adhering to Rio Tinto health & safety standards and actively identifying and reporting hazards and risks

Providing technical engineering support to maintenance and production teams, including planning, prioritisation and support for general, emergent and shutdown work

Analysing equipment performance and failure data to identify reliability risks and improvement opportunities

Monitoring and improving asset performance
-
Leading and supporting reliability investigations and implementing corrective actions through the Defect Elimination process

Reviewing equipment issues and design specifications and recommending engineering and reliability improvements

Collaborating with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMS), planners, supervisors, operations and Maintenance, Planning & Engineering (MP&E) central teams to implement improvements and share learnings

Supporting asset lifecycle management through long‑term planning, capital inputs and Management of Change (MOC) for Fixed Plant assets
About you

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), with a solid mining and processing background and a minimum of three years’ industry experience, including demonstrated reliability engineering experience within mining, heavy industry, manufacturing or rotating equipment environments.

Experience with bulk handling / fixed plant assets, reliability tools, Defect Elimination and CMMS systems such as SAP, with a focus on improving asset performance.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a small team, champion change, and lead improvement initiatives, including presenting technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently or collaboratively, demonstrate a commitment to safety and inclusion, and hold a current C‑Class Driver’s Licence (manual).

Strong knowledge of reliability engineering principles and asset management practices with well developed analytical skills and hands on experience using reliability tools such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode, Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)

Where you’ll be working
In this role, you will support both Gudai‑Darri and Yandicoogina (Yandi) two highly significant operations within our Pilbara portfolio.
Gudai‑Darri, located approximately 110km north‑west of Newman, is our most technologically advanced mine. The operation leverages autonomous trucks, trains, drills and water carts, and features more than 70 design innovations, including a reclaimer with a rotatable bucket wheel, a fully automated robotic laboratory, and real‑time digital access to data and systems across site teams.
Yandicoogina, situated around 95km north‑west of Newman in the East Pilbara, is one of Australia’s highest‑producing iron ore mines. The site produces unique Hamersley Iron Yandi (HIY) fines and operates a fleet of autonomous haul trucks and drills. Yandi is well regarded for its strong culture of teamwork, safety and innovation, and supports a fly‑in fly‑out workforce from multiple hubs including Perth, Busselton and Derby.
Together, Gudai‑Darri and Yandicoogina offer the opportunity to work across technologically advanced, high‑performing operations, while contributing to safe, efficient and innovative mining in the Pilbara.
