We are looking to identify a qualified and experienced operational mine manager to lead in an exciting and influential role as Manager, Mine Development. This role is a liaison between the operational and mining technical services departments, including long-term planning, and is accountable to create and manage operational development activities focused on operational readiness to deliver the 12 month mine strategy, and financial efficiency in an open-pit mine

The Manager, Mine Development position offers an exciting opportunity to influence and impact Rio Tinto's IOC open-pit mining portfolio by supporting operational readiness of the mine plan, including expansions and ideating and managing operational improvement projects.

This role reports to the General Manager, Mine & Ore Delivery at IOC and will provide succession as a potential future General Manager for the asset.

This role would suit a competent operational leader who is seeking to expand and develop their ability to lead and influence asset strategy and influence performance through indirect leadership. Rio Tinto is seeking a passionate, resilient, and collaborative leader to serve as the 'voice of reason,' maintaining a balance between adherence to the long-term mine plan and addressing the immediate needs and challenges within the asset.

 In this exciting opportunity, you will :

• Implement effective health and safety policies to achieve operational excellence.

• Plan, direct and control development activities for the Mine while maintaining a balance between the strategy for the next 12 months and the long-term mine plan.

• Liaise and collaborate with the Mining Operations and Mine Planning teams to deliver the plan, making adjustments to the 12-month plan as required based on inputs.

• Critical focus areas include dewatering, contractor drilling, cost management.

• Deliver on defined business goals and objectives, including production and profit/cost targets. Actively contribute to the development of the mine budget and annual plan.

• Lead and manage the team to achieve the plan objectives.

• Collaborate closely with peers and team members for seamless operations. Establish a people-centric culture focused on safety, well-being, and continuous improvement.

• Meet legislative and regulatory requirements of an the mine site.

• Promote the company's commitments to values and behaviours.

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

• Minimum 10 years’ senior leadership experience in onsite open-pit mine management or technical services management.

• Knowledge of the technical aspects of surface mining.

• Experience with methodologies such as KAIZEN, Lean Six Sigma, and Change Management.

• Experience managing large-scale open-pit mining operations or projects.

• Undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering.

• Ability to encourage diverse thinking and challenge the status quo.

• A genuine and caring approach towards your team's well-being.

IOC’s operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  We also operate a wholly-owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles. ​
