About the role

We are looking for a Specialist: Fire and Emergency Response. RBM is classified as a major Hazard Installation with numerous inherent fire risks directly linked to each processing step. Most of this fire risk has the potential to harm people and cause significant damaged to key assets including unintended impact of communities and the environment. Hence this role is primarily focused on mitigating any potential fire risk onsite whilst ensuring adequate emergency preparedness should any of the preventative measures fails.

This role will help operationalize Risk Management culture within RBM.

• The position will drive and report progress on execution of risk management across the portfolio to leadership on an ongoing basis process.

• Support process owners to ensure the fully understand the fire risk within their department and have adequate control in place to prevent or reduced the likelihood of fire incidents.

• Continuously review and improve the current fire prevention measures and implement technological improvement aimed at better mitigating the fire risks.

• To constantly review the site risk profile and propose proactive measures to reduce the fire load on hire risk areas.

• To review the site wide emergency preparedness taking into consideration know process related fire hazards. 

• To ensure the RBM complies with the Rio Tinto Standards and South African Regulation pertaining to management of the fire risk at Mines. 

Reporting to the Manager: Process Safety and Risk Management you will:

• Ensure all processes comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards pertaining to Fire.

• Develop and maintain a robust assurance framework to monitor and report on compliance.

• Provide assurance to senior management on the effectiveness of risk management and process controls

• Must ensure and understand how sustainable solutions apply to adherence of policies

• Advise senior leadership on fire risk-related issues and provide recommendations for risk mitigation.

• Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices pertaining to the effective management of the fire risk.

• Conduct training sessions for employees on risk management practices and process improvements

• Internal Audit Review (Process safety, asset protection and other related audit on asset maintenance point of view).

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

• Four Year University Qualification in Engineering.  Preferably Mechanical or Electrical or Equivalent (Please attach).

• 3 years or more experience in Fire system design, asset protection, emergency response, environment protection (Must be demonstrated on the CV).
