About the role

We are offering a 6-month internship based out of our headquarter office in London, UK. The Government Relations UK (GR) team has accountability for engaging external stakeholders to positively shape Rio Tinto’s policy and regulatory environment, enhance our competitive position and build trusted partnerships in our priority markets around the world.

With teams and country offices globally, the GR function has responsibility for delivering commercially focused advocacy with stakeholders including governments, regulators, think tanks, civil society and industry associations.

The GR team seeks to embody our company values of Care, Courage and Curiosity. These values underpin the way we manage the economic, social and environmental effects of our operations, and how we govern our business.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Government Relations UK and working in a collaborative community within the Government Relations team, you will

• Provide support to the GR team for the region including, providing geopolitical analysis with regards to exploration and business development activities. 
• Monitoring engagement logistics involving the external affairs team and key stakeholders in priority countries (hosting operations or exploration teams).
• Conduct stakeholder mapping exercises when required, to include key government, CSO and industry peers across the region.

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to safety of yourself and your team
• Minimum two years completed in a bachelor or master’s degree in an associated subject including economics, international affairs, business or political science
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
• Strong analytical and policy development skills
• Self-starter and ability to work independently
