About the role

Join our inclusive Mine Operations team as a Superintendent MEM (Mobile Equipment Maintenance) of our newly developed expansion project – Hope Downs 2.

As a dynamic leader, you will inspire, mentor, and empower a diverse Mobile Equipment Maintenance team, fostering a culture of inclusion, continuous growth, and high performance. By providing regular, constructive feedback and tailored coaching, you’ll support each team member in reaching their full potential. Your leadership will be instrumental in safely delivering maintenance excellence at the site level, ensuring operational goals are met while championing collaboration, innovation, and respect across all levels of the team.

Reporting to the Manager MEM, your duties will include :

• Follow all Rio Tinto standards, policies, and procedures

• Lead and mentor the Mobile Equipment Maintenance team to drive performance, growth, and engagement

• Champion safety standards on site, including isolation, working at heights, and lifting operations

• Promote a strong safety culture by actively encouraging awareness, accountability, and compliance

• Coach team members in identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities

• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to support operational success

• Oversee maintenance execution, ensuring safe, timely, and efficient delivery of work

• Support training and development, ensuring team capability aligns with operational needs

• Manage team scheduling and productivity, balancing safety, cost, and environmental impact

• Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and Rio Tinto standards

• Drive cost awareness and manage budgets responsibly within maintenance operations

• Lead risk and assurance activities, ensuring proactive management of critical assets

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will hold some of the following requirements:

• Proven experience in leading with safety at the forefront and fostering inclusive, high-performing teams

• Skilled in coaching others, leading through change, and making sound, values-based decisions

• Strong contributor to building a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with standards and asset management principles

• Experienced in maintenance planning, execution, and shutdown coordination

• Proficient in root cause analysis, problem-solving, and applying reliability improvement techniques

• Confident user of SAP (or equivalent systems) and Microsoft Office tools

• Collaborates effectively to enhance SPCT performance, driving safe productivity and continuous improvement

• Demonstrates financial acumen, including budget planning, cost forecasting, and variance analysis

• Mechanical or Electrical Trade qualification (or higher)

• Certified in Mechanical or Electrical discipline

• Holds a current Western Australian ‘C’ Class Manual Driver’s Licence

• You’ve also completed approved Risk Management Training

Where you’ll be working

This role will start on a FIFO roster from Perth: 5 days on, 2 days off, then 4 days on, 3 days off.

After 6 months, the roster will shift to a 9 days on, 5 days off schedule.
This change is designed to support better work-life balance, helping you stay connected to both your role and what matters most outside of work.

Located 100km north-west of Newman, Hope Downs 1 is a joint venture managed and operated by Rio Tinto, working in conjunction with nearby site Hope Downs 4. Hope Downs 1 provides exceptional career growth and opportunities, and the village provides excellent facilities for its FIFO workers.
