About the role

There are opportunities across Rio Tinto’s Pilbara Mines Operations for Health & Safety Advisor’s. In this role, you will collaborate, coach and partner with key stakeholders to achieve a physically and mentally safe working environment. Supporting and implementing health and safety programs and systems to ensure they are efficient and effective, meeting local regulatory requirements.

You’ll be part of a supportive team, supported by your Manager to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team.

You’ll work on a FIFO Roster, flying out from Perth to multiple sites within our Pilbara Mine Operations, being on an 8 days on, 6 day off FIFO roster pattern, which will give you more time to spend on the things that are important to you and the people in your life. 

Reporting to the Superintendent Health and Safety, you will be:

• Delivering the annual Health & Safety plan and supporting operational and technical leaders improving safety maturity

• Influence and coach leaders and frontline workers (including contract partners) on fundamental Health & Safety processes (critical risk management, hazard identification and control, pre-start meetings, leadership in the field, quality safety interactions)

• Providing onsite support for incident investigations and risk assessments, including coaching and facilitating

• Providing advice and support with implementation of legislated health and safety requirements

• Assurance activities to determine control effectiveness and improvement actions

• Coach, support and influence leaders and teams with the utilisation of safety tools and standards

• Developing and providing relevant Health & Safety information to operational and technical leaders (safety statistics, incident information, risk analysis, educational material)

• Coordination of site-based initiatives that promote health and wellbeing

• Support frontline leaders in the development and mentoring of Health & Safety Representatives

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: 

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team 

• Respect for others and an all-inclusive mindset  

• Relevant health and safety qualification or demonstrated experience working in an operational health and safety role, coupled with a passion for, and sound knowledge of health and safety

• Experience in data and trend analysis in health and safety indicators to drive insights and interventions

• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to proactively support leaders and to think strategically across the business value chain

• Experience with incident investigations and risk assessment techniques

• High level of integrity and values-based decision making

• Ability to work in a team and autonomously

• Excellent computer literacy including use of various reporting systems. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

• Adaptability, flexibility & a solutions-based mind-set

• Valid C-Class Australian driver’s license or equivalent
