About the role:

This role is dedicated to engaging both internal and external stakeholders on-site while dynamically monitoring updates and managing emerging challenges in order to implement the JV strategy effectively and ensure compliance with obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Proactively engage with both internal and external stakeholders through a variety of forums and interactions to stay informed about the evolving dynamics of the project and its partnerships.

• Collaborate closely with the Principal Advisor – JV Governance to leverage synergies that enhance the practices of JV governance and strategy implementation interactionally.

• Collaborate with and offer support to both the finance and legal teams to ensure compliance with obligations of the JVs.

• Maintaining up-to-date project progress by utilizing various forums and information channels, including regular reviews of quarterly/monthly/weekly reports, participating in company/partner meetings and engaging in daily discussions with internal and external stakeholders.

• Understanding the dynamics and trends of project construction/operation, as well as JV partnerships. Promptly identify risks and challenges associated with the governance and operation of JVs, while proposing effective solutions and innovative ideas.

• Focusing on-site engagement with JV partners, EPCs and key influencers to ensure the timely acquisition of first-hand information of the project as well as insights into partner dynamics, aimed to facilitate effective communication and collaboration with partners in JV governance structure.

• Establishing and nurturing mutual trust with on-site secondees from JV partners to understand the culture, approach and rationale, aimed to enhance communication, bridge trust gaps, and promote constructive interactions.

• Proactively identify, track and manage on-site conflicts between JV partners to maximize alignments.

• Provide implementation guidance for JV practices in line with relevant regulations and company policies.

• Independently drive the meeting cadences and facilitate effective interactions with both internal and external stakeholders, while fostering a collaborative environment that promotes teamwork.

Qualifications & Experience:

• College/University Education: Tertiary qualification, with business or mining/processing/operation qualifications.

• Languages: English and Mandarin language skills are essential

• Proven experience in a similar role involving significant business acumen related to mining or infrastructure operations.

• Extensive business experience in Chinese or African environments and a track record of working in multi-cultural settings.

• Demonstrated ability to understand business cases, identify key inputs and drivers to achieve objectives and effective business relationships.

• An exceptional communicator and facilitator, adept at fostering and sustaining a positive reputation.

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
