About the role

We are looking for a General Manager – Technical to define and execute the technical services strategy that supports safe, reliable and efficient operations across Simfer. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will provide leadership across Asset Management, Engineering, Sustaining Capital, Contractor Management Excellence and Business Improvement, strengthening technical governance, asset performance, operational discipline and continuous improvement. This is an opportunity to influence a significant operation, build enduring technical capability and create sustainable business value through your leadership.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Simfer, and working with operational leaders, project teams and functional stakeholders across a complex, multicultural operating environment, you will be:

• Developing and executing the Technical strategy in line with business and operational priorities.

• Providing visible safety leadership and strengthening technical governance, engineering assurance and asset integrity across operations. Leading Asset Management, Engineering, Sustaining Capital, Contractor Management Excellence and Business Improvement functions.

• Establishing asset management strategies that improve reliability, availability and lifecycle performance.

• Governing engineering standards, technical risk management and the planning, prioritisation and delivery of sustaining capital programs.

• Driving productivity, operational efficiency, asset optimisation and value creation through disciplined business improvement and change initiatives.

• Building effective partnerships across operations, projects and functions while managing budgets, business plans and performance targets.

• Developing inclusive, high-performing multidisciplinary teams and supporting nationalisation, succession and technical capability building.

Required for Success

• Skills and Capabilities: Strategic, technical and commercial leadership across engineering governance, asset integrity, operational excellence and stakeholder influence.

• More than 20 years’ of relevant experience or equivalent, including senior leadership experience in mining, resources, infrastructure or heavy industrial operations, including accountability for technical services, engineering, asset management, maintenance, sustaining capital or operational excellence and value chain management

• Demonstrated success leading large multidisciplinary teams across complex, multicultural and geographically dispersed operations, including remote or challenging environments.

• Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.

• Language : Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and French are desirable.

• Experience leading business transformation, continuous improvement or organisational change and developing leaders through succession and capability-building programs.

Il s’agit d’une occasion d’influencer des opérations d’envergure, de développer des capacités techniques durables et de créer une valeur commerciale durable grâce à votre leadership.

Ce que vous ferez

Relevant du chef des opérations, Simfer, et travaillant avec des gestionnaires opérationnels, des équipes de projet et des parties prenantes fonctionnelles dans un environnement opérationnel complexe et multiculturel, vous aurez les responsabilités suivantes :

• Élaborer et exécuter la stratégie technique conformément aux priorités commerciales et opérationnelles.

• Assurer un leadership visible en matière de sécurité et renforcer la gouvernance technique, l’assurance ingénierie et l’intégrité des actifs à l’échelle des opérations. Diriger les fonctions suivantes : gestion des actifs, ingénierie, capital de maintien, excellence en matière de gestion des prestataires de services et amélioration des affaires.

• Définir des stratégies de gestion des actifs visant à améliorer la fiabilité, la disponibilité et la performance tout au long du cycle de vie.

• Veiller à la gouvernance des normes d’ingénierie, de la gestion des risques techniques, ainsi que de la planification, de la hiérarchisation et de la mise en œuvre des programmes de capital de maintien.

• Stimuler la productivité, l’efficacité opérationnelle, l’optimisation des actifs et la création de valeur grâce à des initiatives disciplinées d’amélioration des affaires et de changement.

• Établir des partenariats efficaces entre les opérations, les projets et les fonctions, tout en gérant les budgets, les plans d’affaires et les objectifs de performance.

• Développer des équipes multidisciplinaires inclusives et hautement performantes, et soutenir la nationalisation, la relève et le renforcement des capacités techniques.

• Qualifications : Diplôme universitaire de premier cycle en ingénierie ou dans une discipline technique connexe.

• Langue : Excellentes compétences en communication orale et écrite (en français et en anglais), un atout.

• Expérience dans la conduite de transformations d’entreprise, d’améliorations continues ou de changements organisationnels, ainsi que dans le développement des gestionnaires par le biais de programmes de relève et de renforcement des capacités.

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
