About the role

• Role based at Simandou Mine site on a 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster.

We are looking for a Principal Advisor, Mining Contracts (Operations) to support our Simandou Project by supporting contracting activities and the day-to-day commercial function to meet time, cost, and quality requirements.

This is a great opportunity for a self-motivated professional to contribute through applying technical and professional knowledge to solve a range of problems whilst using largely defined procedures and solutions.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Procurement and providing direct support to the site contract managers reporting to the General Manager Mining located at the Simandou Mine Site in Guinea, you will be:

• Managing and administering the lifecycle of key operational service contracts from strategy development through to close out in accordance with sound principals and practices, company procedure and appropriate industry standards and contract law.

• Provide expert commercial and contract advice to General Manager Mining and site contract managers on a day to day basis

• Provide key contract oversite and analysis supporting site contract managers to ensure best for business decisions are made on key operational contracts

• Developing and implementing strategies for services contracts, including engaging with service providers in China.

• Carrying out contract management activities in accordance with the project governance requirements including correspondence, minutes of meeting, change control

• Ensure all procurement procedures are followed and all approvals required are in accordance with the DFA

• Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve the best long-term outcomes.

• Representing the site operational team in contract management meetings

What you’ll bring

• Bachelors degree or higher in relevant field (Procurement, Commerce, Legal, Finance)

• Demonstrated experience in the procurement and contracts administration of service contracts (10+ years).

• Demonstrated strong commercial acumen with an ability to analyse and administer contract oversight for critical operational service contracts

• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills

• A commitment to deliver excellence in stakeholder satisfaction

• Ability to speak French or Chinese and experience working with Chinese contractors (preferred but not mandatory).

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
