About the role

We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Communities and Social Performance (CSP) to support Rio Tinto’s social licence to operate by strengthening community and stakeholder relationships, managing social risk, and ensuring the consistent application of CSP standards across the operation.

Reporting to the Manager and working in a collaborative community within the Communities & Social Performance Department, you will be:

• Applying professional CSP expertise to advise on, implement, and deliver Communities & Social Performance initiatives, systems, and programs across operations.
• Providing sound professional input into operational planning, projects, and change processes to identify, assess, and manage social risks and impacts.
• Supporting the consistent application of Rio Tinto CSP standards, policies, procedures, and management systems, ensuring alignment with legal requirements, agreements, and internal commitments.
• Building and maintaining strong, respectful, and productive relationships with Indigenous communities, local governments, regional organizations, and other key stakeholders.
• Representing Rio Tinto in community meetings, forums, and engagement activities, ensuring communication is clear, transparent, and culturally appropriate.
• Managing community feedback, complaints, and grievances in line with company requirements, including accurate record‑keeping, confidentiality, and timely resolution.
• Contributing to social and socio‑economic impact assessments, including data collection, analysis, engagement activities, reporting, and follow‑up actions.
• Supporting CSP planning and performance management processes, including three‑year plans, annual updates, KPIs, internal reporting, and the informal guidance of junior team members or contractors as required.

About you

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
• Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Public Policy, Community Development, Environmental Studies, or a related field
• Demonstrated experience in Communities & Social Performance or a related discipline, preferably within resource, infrastructure, government, or similarly complex operating environments.
• Ability to identify, assess, and manage social risks and impacts, and integrate social considerations into operational and project planning.
• Independently manage priorities and apply sound professional judgement within governance and assurance frameworks.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with experience managing community feedback, building trusted relationships with Indigenous communities, local governments, and diverse community groups, and the ability to travel to stakeholders as required (valid driver’s license).

The base salary range for this role is $116,000 – $174,000 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
