- Shape critical asset lifecycle decisions that keep Ranger’s plant, infrastructure and equipment safe, reliable and fit for purpose throughout rehabilitation
- Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary Asset Management team, with genuine scope to influence long-term maintenance strategy and how end-of-life assets are managed
- Permanent role on a 14-days on, 7-days off roster, flying to Jabiru from either Darwin or Brisbane
We’re Finding Better Ways™ to provide materials the world needs, now and in the future. Our values – care, courage and curiosity – guide how we work and how we treat each other.
About the role
We are looking for a Superintendent Asset Management to help the Ranger Water Processing team manage critical assets safely and reliably through the site rehabilitation program. In this role, you’ll lead the Asset Management function across maintenance planning and scheduling, asset integrity, process safety, technical information, warehouse operations, and inventory management.
This is an opportunity to make considered, risk-based decisions in a distinctive operating environment where assets have different remaining lives and investment needs. You’ll help shape long-term plans for assets that may require maintenance, remediation, life extension or managed end-of-life approaches, while building greater capability and cohesion within an experienced team that is driving meaningful change.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Asset Manager and working with an experienced, proactive and collaborative team within Water Processing, you will:
- Lead the Asset Management function and develop a team spanning maintenance planning and scheduling, asset integrity, process safety, technical information, warehouse and inventory management.
- Set risk-based asset lifecycle strategies that balance safety, condition, operational need, cost and the remaining life required for rehabilitation activities.
- Strengthen maintenance planning and scheduling by improving work readiness, backlog quality, schedule delivery and alignment to the management operating system and asset management standards.
- Maintain clear visibility of asset condition and integrity risks, translating inspection findings into practical monitoring, repair, remediation, replacement or life-extension plans.
- Shape multi-year maintenance and shutdown plans for critical assets, including equipment returning to service after extended periods or requiring investment late in its lifecycle.
- Strengthen process safety and assurance for safety-critical assets in partnership with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and HSE.
- Improve asset information and decisions using accurate master data, drawings, P&IDs, and equipment records.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Projects and Procurement to align critical spares, inventory, project interfaces and asset decisions with rehabilitation milestones.
About you
We’re looking for someone whose experience aligns with the key requirements below. You do not need to meet every “helpful for success” item to apply. If you bring relevant experience and are excited by the opportunity, we encourage you to submit an application.
Required for Success
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Demonstrated experience leading asset management, maintenance, reliability or engineering activities in mining, processing, utilities, oil and gas, resource recovery or another large-scale, safety-critical heavy industrial environment
- Experience leading and developing multi-disciplinary teams, including through periods of operational or organisational change
- Strong practical capability in maintenance strategy, planning and scheduling, asset integrity and risk-based lifecycle decision-making for ageing or end-of-life assets
- Experience using SAP or an equivalent computerised maintenance management system to support work management and asset information
- Sound stakeholder and decision-making capability, with experience balancing operational requirements, asset risk, investment and longer-term business needs
Helpful for Success
- An engineering or relevant technical qualification, or equivalent practical industry experience
- Experience with process safety, safety-critical equipment, warehouse operations, critical spares or inventory management
- Experience working in a project-influenced operational environment, rehabilitation, closure, or decommissioning environment
- Experience developing multi-year maintenance, shutdown or asset life-extension plans
What we offer
Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.
- A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
- A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto
- A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive program
- Comprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family
- Attractive share ownership plan
- Company provided insurance cover
- Extensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging options
- Career development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions
- Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing support
- Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick & cultural leave)
- Exclusive employee discounts (banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more)
Where you’ll be working
Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) operated the Ranger Uranium Mine near the town of Jabiru in the Northern Territory, Australia, previously mining and producing uranium oxide. In January 2021, ERA ceased all mining and processing activities at Ranger after 40 years of operation with the focus now shifting to rehabilitation.
The Ranger Rehabilitation Project is committed to the rehabilitation of the Ranger Project Area to a standard that will establish an environment similar to the adjacent Kakadu National Park. In 2024, ERA entered into a Management Services Agreement (MSA) with Rio Tinto to manage the Ranger Rehabilitation Project, which will build on ERA’s existing rehabilitation work with Rio Tinto’s technical expertise in designing, scoping and executing closure projects. We remain committed to working with all key stakeholders, including the Mirarr People to complete this important rehabilitation work.
