About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent to lead a team of dedicated professionals, balancing risk, optimizing asset performance, and managing asset management budgets for the Power Operations department. This role involves ensuring the safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operation of our Power Operations department. As we expand and strengthen our leadership team, this role will play a key part in ensuring continuous reliability, through best practices, safety focus and team engagement.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Asset Management Manager and the Power & Projects Director, and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:
- Promoting and ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto’s Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, fostering a “zero harm” safety culture.
- Supporting Power Operations and Asset Management in continuously improving short and long term maintenance strategies.
- Implementing and supporting the reliability excellence program and action plans in Asset Protection.
- Identifying and resolving maintenance and equipment issues within the operating department or plant-wide, including root cause analysis and recommendations.
- Addressing equipment operational and design issues to achieve and sustain targeted production levels within budget.
- Assisting in the preparation and management of annual maintenance budgets, ensuring conformance to budget.
- Preparing and managing capital budgets to achieve business outcomes.
- Leading and developing a team of technical professionals, enhancing overall leadership capability and staff development.
- Maintaining excellent communication with stakeholders across the site.
- Providing technical support for critical breakdowns and incidents beyond regular working hours as required.
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, supporting the team in implementing improvement initiatives, competency training, and technical advances.
- Applying business evaluation techniques and risk assessment principles to optimize operations and service delivery.
- Optimizing production and driving efficiency through leadership, engagement, and application of technology.
- Identifying threats and opportunities to business objectives through data, conversations, and observations; diagnosing root causes and determining required interventions.
- Acting as a liaison between the leadership team and the shopfloor.
- Supporting active listening initiatives at “Lean 3” meetings to quickly respond to employee concerns.
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or relevant leadership experience or technical/trade background and industry experience.
- Effective leadership experience within a relevant industry, showcasing the ability to guide, mentor, and empower teams to drive positive employee engagement.
- A proactive and strategic approach to leadership, fostering a work environment that encourages initiative, innovation, and forward-thinking strategies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills across teams and stakeholders.
- Excellent knowledge of work management processes.
- A minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance/operations experience, ideally having led people within a unionized organization.
- Understanding of cost structure and optimization.
- Prior knowledge of Lean/6 Sigma methodologies is an asset.
- Knowledge of asset management principles.
- A minimum of a valid B.C. Class 7 Driver’s license or equivalent.

The base salary range for this role is $126,320 – $189,480 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
