About the role:

We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Senior Process Engineer to lead and optimise processing operations. This role will play a key role in enhancing plant performance, implementing practical process improvements, and ensuring operational compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design, optimisation, and troubleshooting of crushing, conveying, and stockyard processes.

• Monitor plant performance data, conduct root cause analyses, and identify operational improvement opportunities.

• Conduct metallurgical test work and evaluate plant performance data to identify areas for improvement.

• Develop and implement process control strategies to maximise throughput and equipment efficiency.

• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, reliability, and planning teams to drive continuous improvement.

• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior process engineers and plant metallurgists.

• Manage the planning and execution of process improvement and debottlenecking projects.

• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.

• Prepare and deliver regular performance reports, KPIs, and technical dashboards to site leadership.

• Participate in cost-benefit analysis, project scoping, and budget planning for process optimisation initiatives.

• Contribute to shutdown planning and execution from a process engineering perspective.

• Interface with railway and port operations. This includes aligning with the shipping schedule and cooperating closely with the integrated planning team.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, or Process Engineering (or related discipline).

• 7–10 years’ experience in mineral processing, ideally within iron ore or comparable bulk commodities.

• Strong knowledge of crushing, conveying, blending, and bulk materials handling systems.

• Demonstrated success in process optimisation, debottlenecking, and plant performance improvement.

• Proven ability to analyse plant data and provide practical, site-ready solutions.

• Familiarity with operational data systems such as OSIsoft PI System, SCADA, and control room environments.

• Strong commitment to safety, risk management, and continuous improvement.

• Experience with project commissioning, including ramp-up and troubleshooting.

• Understanding of water balance, dust control, and environmental compliance in a dry processing context.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Chartered status or professional engineering accreditation.

• Experience working in remote or FIFO mining operations, preferably within the international mining industry.

• Fluency in English required, proficiency in French is an advantage.

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
