The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Demolition Lead to act as our subject matter expert for Diavik's significant demolition scope. This role involves providing technical expertise, reviewing project documents and plans, and liaising closely with our contracted demolition partner.

About the Role
As the Demolition Lead, you will be the primary technical specialist for demolition activities for Diavik. The role generally consists of 50-70% of your time in the office attending meetings, reviewing demolition plans, procedures, engineering documents, and project schedules. The remaining 30-50% of your time will be spent in the field observing progress, driving resolution to issues and seeking proactive solutions to upcoming works. You'll ensure all aspects align with our project objectives, safety standards, and contractual agreements. A key part of your role will be consulting directly with the demolition contractor, providing insights, clarification, and acting as a Diavik (owner’s) representative to facilitate efficient and compliant project execution.
This position requires strong technical knowledge in demolition, excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to proactively identify and resolve potential issues.
Reporting to the Superintendent, Demolition and Contracted Works, based at the Lac de Gras Diavik Mine site, the role requires weekly on-site presence on a rotational schedule.
The main responsibilities will be:
- Acting as the primary subject matter expert for all demolition-related activities.
- Reviewing and providing expert input on demolition plans, method statements, engineering drawings, and other technical documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications, best practices and contractual requirements.
- Monitoring the contractor's documentation and submissions for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to contractual obligations.
- Consulting directly with the demolition contractor, providing technical oversight, clarifying scope, and resolving complex technical queries.
- Collaborating with the Superintendent, Demolition and Contracted Works, and other project teams to ensure seamless integration of demolition activities with overall closure plans.
- Participating in constructability/demolition reviews, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses.
- Identifying potential technical challenges or risks related to demolition and proposing effective mitigation strategies.
- Contributing to the development of lessons learned and best practices for demolition projects.
- Ensuring accurate technical record-keeping and documentation of all reviews and consultations.
- Maintaining a proactive commitment to safety, participating in safety discussions, and promoting safe work practices during review and consultation activities.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience directly related to demolition projects, ideally within industrial or mining environments, with a strong understanding of demolition methodologies and hazards.
- A degree or diploma in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience acting as a technical subject matter expert, including document review and consultation with contractors.
- The ability to interpret and understand complex engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical documentation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address technical issues proactively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively consulting and collaborating with contractors and internal teams.
- A proactive and unwavering commitment to safety, with a strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and safe work practices.
- Proficiency in using standard computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and the ability to learn and utilize project management and reporting systems.
- Experience working in a remote site environment, particularly fly-in/fly-out operations, is considered an asset.
Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, along with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in the North, are considered assets.
