About the role

We are looking for a Business Support Officer to play a key role in supporting unionized workforce by managing internal job postings, employee movements, and workforce data in alignment with the Collective Labour Agreement. The role provides hands‑on support for payroll, time and attendance, and HR systems, with a strong focus on care for people, data accuracy, reporting, and issue resolution.

Reporting to the Principal Adviser Employee Relations and working in a collaborative community within the Human Resources Department, you will be:

• Managing internal job postings, employee movements, and workforce data for the site’s unionized workforce in alignment with the Collective Labour Agreement.
• Maintaining workforce data integrity through regular reporting, specialized reports, routine data analysis, and weekly audits to proactively prevent payroll issues.
• Providing hands‑on support for payroll, time and attendance matters, acting as a key point of contact for operational leaders and both unionized and non‑unionized employees.
• Administer and support HR systems including Workday, Workforce Solutions (WFS), PeopleSoft, and SAP for workforce data, time and attendance, and employee records.
• Troubleshoot and resolve HR information system issues, including employee changes, system errors, and data discrepancies, with awareness of downstream impacts to Payroll, IT, and other stakeholders.
• Triage HR system issues and coordinate with internal partners and external providers to ensure timely resolution and continuity of operations.
• Participate in regular meetings with the time and attendance provider to support system improvements, upgrades, and corrections.
• Provide administrative and operational support to the HR team, including special projects and management of purchase orders and purchase requisitions (PO/PR).

About you

• High school diploma required; college or university education in a related field (e.g., human resources, business administration) is an asset.
• Three to five years of experience in a related role, such as HR, payroll, administration, or workforce support.
• Advanced computer skills, with the ability to work confidently across multiple systems and manage data accurately.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships and respond patiently and professionally to employee and leader inquiries.
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, adapt quickly to change, and remain effective in a fast‑paced environment.
• Proven discretion and professionalism, with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately, while working independently and as part of a team.

The base salary range for this role is $76,480 – $114,720 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
