About the role

We are currently looking for a Shipping and Logistics Operator to join the team at our New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter (NZAS). As a Shipping and Logistics Operator, you will play a pivotal role in the smooth functioning of our Shipping & Logistics Department. NZAS Shipping and Logistics team manage the raw materials on site from the discharge of ships into storage, then into the customer feed intakes. These raw materials include Alumina, Petroleum Coke, Heavy Fuel Oil & Liquid Pitch.

Every hour of every shift, your safety and wellbeing is our number one priority. We do the work only if it is safe, and we invest to make sure every member of the team has the quality tools they need to do their job.

Reporting to the Crew Leader – Shipping & Logistics and working a roster12, some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Keeping safety at front of mind in all tasks you undertake
• Working as part of a team to meet shared goals across each shift
• Operating fixed plant and heavy mobile equipment
• Torbed Operation
• Bath Plant Operation
• Bulk Ship Discharge (Alumina, Coke, Pitch & HFO)
• Alumina Store Management
• Coke & Butts Management
• Metal Yard operations

What you’ll bring

• A demonstrated commitment to safety
• Desire and ability to lead, and function effectively as part of a team
• A commitment to continuous improvement
• New Zealand Class 2 Drivers Licence
• Mechanical aptitude
• Excellent communication skills
• A strong customer focus, as interaction with many internal and external customers requires the ability to understand their needs and how actions can influence their process
• Active participation in Toolbox and Safety Meeting sessions
• A willingness to learn and enthusiasm to develop new skills as required
• Forklift ticket highly regarded
• Ambition for personal development into a leadership role
