About the role
 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Process Engineer / Chemical Engineer/ Metallurgist to join our inclusive and diverse Maintenance Planning & Engineering (MP&E) Team.

This unique role will allow you to provide technical support for operations and maintenance teams, assisting in improving plant availability and performance in order to maximise plant throughput whilst minimising the associated costs. Optimisation and improvement of the process plant will be a key focus of this role.  
 

Reporting to the MP&E Engineering Superintendent, you will be responsible for the following duties:

• Adhere to all Rio Tinto standards, policies and procedures

• Actively foster and communicate a positive safety culture to promote safety awareness and compliance, encouraging prioritisation of safety in all activities and operations

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities utilising a range of Rio Tinto best practices

• Collaborate closely with other functions and stakeholders in the performance of duties

• Perform plant troubleshooting, optimisation and continuous improvement

• Ensure plant capacity is fully optimised, and production targets are met

• Investigate deviations from the plan, including identifying and recommending solutions

• Provide technical support and advice to fixed plant Operations and Maintenance crews and frontline leaders

• Validate downtime data in accordance with the RTIO Time Usage Model

• Report plant performance through daily, weekly and monthly reporting formats

• Prepare and distribute operating strategies, Problematic Ore Management Plan and measure conformance to plan 

• Shut support as required; guidance on screen panel, and processing asset technical queries

• Interact with suppliers to coordinate (scope, timeframe & costs) analysis and test work conducted external to RTIO

• Engage with Central Process Engineering Team for in-shift plant optimisation, processing technical queries, interpretation of test work results, sampling guidance, flowsheet and modelling
   

About you
 

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• A degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Process Engineering or Chemical Engineering

• Excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills

• Sound analytical, problem solving and critiquing skills

• Demonstrate understanding of Processing unit operations performance and levers to optimise

• Experience leading improvement projects and defect elimination process

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite – experience with PowerBI and SQL also beneficial

• Current 'C' Class Driver's License (Manual)

Where you’ll be working
 

This role is being offered on a 8/6 roster, Residential in Tom Price, or FIFO from Perth to Tom Price. 
 

Tom Price is located in the central Pilbara, west of Karijini National Park and is our original Pilbara mine, currently employing residential and fly in fly out employees. It is known as one of the most attractive towns in the Pilbara with a high school, two primary schools a hospital and a high standard of recreational facilities.
