Este rol brinda liderazgo y experiencia a nivel senior en la comprensión y gestión de riesgos, impactos y oportunidades sociales y comunitarias para Rio Tinto Exploration en Colombia y en proyectos avanzados.
Asegura que las preocupaciones relacionadas con CSP y la gestión social proactiva estén plenamente integradas en el proyecto y en nuestro enfoque y reputación en Colombia, para lograr el éxito en el país y en proyectos prioritarios avanzados.
Lidera el equipo de CSP para apoyar la entrega de los objetivos en proyectos avanzados, diseñando estrategias generales de relacionamiento comunitario, consulta y construcción de relaciones.
Colabora con otras disciplinas para contribuir al desarrollo de la exploración y los proyectos en Colombia, construyendo estrategias y prioridades, y alineando las actividades de CSP con el trabajo de otros equipos.
Dirige el desarrollo de un enfoque estratégico para el relacionamiento comunitario y con partes interesadas en el Distrito de Chocó, con dirección independiente y aportes del proyecto y RTX CSP.

Responsabilidades y áreas clave de enfoque

• Comprender a las comunidades locales, especialmente afrocolombianas e indígenas; el relacionamiento comunitario y la construcción de acuerdos; temas de patrimonio cultural; quejas, disputas y reclamos comunitarios; gestión de oportunidades; desarrollo comunitario; desarrollo de fuerza laboral local; promoción de relaciones constructivas entre las fuerzas militares colombianas y actores locales; y asegurar la integración continua de los Principios Voluntarios sobre Seguridad y Derechos Humanos (VPSHR) en nuestra forma de trabajar, los acuerdos que establecemos y la relación continua con las fuerzas militares colombianas.

• Fortalecer las capacidades dentro de los equipos de Colombia y Comitá para abordar eficazmente los desafíos de CSP.

• Mejorar las capacidades internas del equipo regional en CSP, brindando formación, mentoría y orientación para aumentar el conocimiento, la confianza y las habilidades del equipo de proyecto.

• Brindar dirección estratégica y asesoría al liderazgo del proyecto sobre cómo Rio Tinto Exploration Colombia y los proyectos avanzados se representan y participan en foros formales e informales, reuniones y diálogos con actores externos, especialmente comunidades indígenas y otros actores locales, para avanzar en intereses comunes.

• Liderar el desarrollo de un enfoque estratégico para el relacionamiento comunitario y con partes interesadas en el Distrito del Chocó, asegurando el cumplimiento de todos los estándares, principios y guías de Rio Tinto.

• Apoyar el desarrollo de relaciones productivas con actores externos claves, incluyendo representantes de comunidades, gobierno, medios de comunicación y organizaciones no gubernamentales.

Lo que necesitas para ser considerado/a para este rol

• Título universitario, preferentemente con estudios de posgrado.

• Al menos 8 años de experiencia en minería, trabajando con comunidades rurales, indígenas y afrocolombianas, siguiendo estándares internacionales relacionados con el desempeño social y ambiental.

• Experiencia en la construcción y negociación de acuerdos comunitarios. Amplio conocimiento de procesos de consulta libre, previa e informada, así como de consulta previa.

• Gran capacidad para comprender e interpretar temas complejos y multifacéticos que involucran aspectos culturales, sociales, comunitarios, políticos e históricos que pueden impactar las actividades del proyecto.

• Capacidad para trabajar colaborativamente con equipos técnicos diversos, logrando resultados mediante el intercambio de conocimientos, habilidades y capacidades técnicas.

• Fuertes habilidades de comunicación, incluyendo la capacidad de redactar recomendaciones e informes, y presentar información a diversos actores.

• Capacidad para comunicarse en inglés a nivel intermedio o superior.

About the position

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

Provide senior level leadership and expertise in understanding and managing the community and social risks, impacts, and opportunities for Rio Tinto Exploration in Colombia and at advanced projects

Ensure that CSP-related concerns and proactive social management are integrated fully into the project and our broader approach and reputation in Colombia in order to achieve success in the country and at advanced, priority projects. Lead the CSP team to support delivery of CSP objectives at advanced projects and design general community engagement strategy and consultation and relationship building approaches.

Collaborate with other disciplines to contribute to the achievement of exploration and project development in Colombia and build strategy and priorities and to align CSP activities with the work of other teams.

Lead development of strategic approach to community and stakeholder engagement in the Choco District, through independent direction with input from project and RTX CSP.

Responsibilities & key focus areas

• Understand local communities, particularly Afro-Colombian and Indigenous ones; community engagement and agreement-making; cultural heritage issues; community complaints, disputes and grievances; community opportunity management; community development; local workforce development; promoting constructive relations between the Colombian military and any local stakeholders; and ensuring the continued embedding of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR) in the ways that we work, the agreements we make, and the ongoing relationship with the Colombian military.  

• Build competence within the Colombia and Comitá teams to help them effectively address CSP challenges.

• Improve internal workforce capability at the regional level in CSP. Provide training, coaching and guidance to improve the knowledge, confidence and skills of project team members.

• Provide strategic direction and advice to project leadership on how Rio Tinto Exploration Colombia and advanced projects are represented and engage in formal and informal forums, meetings, and discussions with external stakeholders, particularly Indigenous communities and other local stakeholders, to advance mutual interests.

• Lead development of strategic approach to community and stakeholder engagement in the Choco District ensuring all Rio Tinto standards, principles, and guidance are met.

• Support development of productive working relationships with key external stakeholders including representatives from community, government, media, and non-government organisations.

What you will bring and require to be considered for this role

• University degree or master's degree preferred.

• At least 8 years of experience in Mining in the relationship with rural, indigenous communities, and Afro-Colombian communities, following international standards linked to social and environmental performance.

• Experience in building and negotiating community agreements. Extensive knowledge of free, prior and informed consultation processes, as well prior consultation.

• Strong ability to understand and interpret complex and multifaceted issues involving a combination of cultural, social, community, political and historical issues that may impact project activities.

• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse technical staff to achieve results through the sharing of knowledge, skills and technical capabilities.

• Strong communication skills, including the ability to write recommendations and reports and present information to a variety of stakeholders

• Ability to communicate in English at an intermediate or higher level.
