Oyu Tolgoi is one of the most exciting projects in copper and gold mining for several decades. It contains reserves and resources that make it one of the world’s largest known copper and gold deposits. The project, managed by Rio Tinto, is expanding underground. With a high demand of skills required to complete the project safely and successfully, Oyu Tolgoi is expected to be a significant contributor to Mongolia’s development and the prosperity of the Mongolian people.

The Opportunity

We are looking for Senior Hoist Engineer to support the Fixed Plant Maintenance Team by coaching and mentoring the national engineers in all aspects of hoist management and asset management. This is a senior engineering role that requires suitable background experience in managing and maintaining hoist infrastructure.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity to take the next step in your career on a truly global project. Working a 28 days on, 14 days off roster FIFO changes to roster and living arrangements to the right candidate can be made and reporting to the Superintendent of Maintenance Engineering, you will be:

• Influencing the safety culture for the Hoist Engineering team,
• The Senior Hoisting Engineer is responsible for the statutory compliance of shafts, hoists and winches
• Accountable for providing guidance on Hoist Infrastructure maintenance management,
• Managing the Hoisting Plan to ensure compliance with Ontario and Mongolian Regulations
• Providing technical governance to the maintenance and operations teams to ensure maintenance and operation of the hoist is conducted in accordance with regulations
• Hoist Passports and log books are managed and kept up to date
• Managing the MOC process for all activities related to the hoisting operation
• Formalising and maintaining the document management of hoisting activities
• Supporting the planning team in developing best practice maintenance plans for the Hoists and Winches
• Managing Hoisting OEM's and Engineering Support such as but not limited to:

2.      Ropes

3.      Conveyances

4.      Brakes

5.      Structural Engineering

What you will need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• An Engineering degree qualification with asset management experience
• Strong and effective leadership in ensuring compliance to statutory regulations
• Be respected as a subject matter expert.
• Experience in developing and maintaining task instructions that facilitate safe work execution.
• Have experience leading teams.
• Be a skilled coach, trainer and adviser.
• Have good understanding of, and proven skills in, work management process analysis and improvement.
• Have strong communication skills and proven ability to engage and build relationships across multiple layers of the organization from management to front line leaders and technicians and operators.
• Have strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks and work both independently and as part of a team.
• You will be part of a high performance team dedicated to continuous improvement, your diversity of thought and practical experience will be highly valued.
• You will be empowered to enable higher performance through people and make a real difference to the performance of our business.
• Experience in the facilitation and implementation of improvement programs
