We are looking for a Specialist HME within the Global Equipment team within Rio Tinto Procurement.

In this influential role, you will help strengthen operational excellence across the global Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) procurement category by developing data-driven fact bases and using data, automation and AI-enabled tools to improve insight, productivity and decision-making. Drawing on your commercial, financial, technical and/or operational expertise, you will shape practical commercial frameworks, lead complex negotiations and evaluations, and improve contract usability, OEM/dealer accountability and HME asset performance across a multifaceted category encompassing over US$1.3 billion and 10+ global OEMs/dealers.

This role is also critical to delivering a stronger, sharper and simpler approach to HME category management by ensuring strategies and agreements are practical, operationally relevant, and aligned with the Safe Production System. This includes supporting future HME and technology initiatives through clear scopes, accountabilities, and commercial models that reduce total cost of ownership and strengthen operational excellence.

Reporting to the Principal Mobile Equipment, your key responsibilities will include: 

• Developing robust, data-driven fact bases, including macroeconomic analysis, supplier insights and HME technology trends, to support stronger, sharper and simpler category and sourcing strategies.

• Managing end-to-end sourcing events, including stakeholder briefings, tender coordination and evaluation, agreement negotiation, award, implementation and Ariba workspace management.

• Drafting and negotiating contracts and statements of work for technology initiatives, with clear scopes, accountabilities and commercial models that improve safety, asset performance and long-term value.

• Implementing and auditing contract management controls to prevent value leakage and performing Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) activities to improve OEM/dealer performance and operational outcomes for end users.

• Acting as a key category interface across Fleet Planning, Market Analysis, Treasury, Outline Agreement teams and key productivity partners to enable clear, accountable and practical delivery.

• Providing commercial guidance and insights to regional procurement, greenfield studies, Finance, Fleet Planning, Global Equipment and operations teams to support practical HME agreements, pricing decisions, asset performance and reduced total cost of ownership.

What you’ll bring 

To be successfully considered for this role, you will ideally have: 

• 5+ years in a commercial, procurement, technical and/or operational role, ideally with exposure to heavy mobile equipment, asset performance or complex operational environments.

• Experience with complex pricing negotiations, commercial evaluations and/or financial modelling, with the ability to connect commercial outcomes to operational performance and total cost of ownership.

• Proficiency with Power BI, Microsoft Office suite, and ideally SAP or a comparable ERP system, with demonstrated experience using data, automation and AI-enabled tools to improve insight, productivity and decision-making.

• Tertiary qualifications in business, accounting, finance, engineering, technology, operations or a related discipline would be beneficial.

• A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across commercial, technical and operational teams, while contributing to a positive team culture in a diverse environment.
