About the role
Rio Tinto is transforming the way sustaining capital projects are delivered through the implementation of the One Gladstone model, creating an integrated self-perform delivery capability across our Gladstone operations.
We are seeking an experienced Manager Capital Delivery to lead the execution of a diverse portfolio of sustaining capital projects while establishing and embedding the One Gladstone self-perform delivery model across our operating sites. This is a significant leadership opportunity with accountability for delivering critical capital projects that improve asset integrity, reliability, safety and operational performance at Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL), Yarwun and other Gladstone-based operations.
As a member of the Sustaining Capital Leadership Team, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, provide strategic direction for project execution, and build a high-performing self-perform organisation capable of delivering projects safely, efficiently and predictably. You will play a key role in developing the future delivery capability for Pacific Operations while ensuring projects meet business objectives for safety, cost, schedule and quality.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the One Gladstone self-perform delivery organisation.

Safely deliver a portfolio of sustaining capital projects across Gladstone operating sites.

Drive execution excellence across project management, construction and commissioning activities.

Build and develop a high-performing project delivery team.

Establish standardised systems, work processes and reporting across Gladstone operations.

Manage project delivery performance across safety, cost, schedule and quality metrics.

Strengthen partnerships with Operations, Engineering, Procurement and external service providers.

Drive continuous improvement and lessons learned across the delivery portfolio.

Support long-term capital planning and portfolio optimisation initiatives.
About you
As a preferred candidate, you will bring extensive experience leading major project delivery teams across mining, resources, industrial and infrastructure environments, with a strong track record in construction management, project delivery and the successful execution of large-scale capital projects. You will have proven capability in leading and motivating large multidisciplinary teams, while effectively influencing and collaborating across complex stakeholder groups to achieve strategic outcomes.
A passionate advocate for safety leadership and operational excellence, you will consistently drive high-performance cultures that prioritise both people and results. Your experience will span across delivering projects through both contractor-led and self-perform models, providing the flexibility to adapt delivery strategies to meet project objectives. Combined with strong commercial and financial acumen, you will be adept at balancing cost, risk, schedule and quality to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with business goals.

Degree qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or related discipline

Significant experience leading major capital or sustaining capital project portfolios

Proven success managing construction and project delivery organisations

Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams within heavy industry environments

Strong commercial, contract and stakeholder management capability
Desirable

Experience in mining, alumina refining, smelting, processing or heavy industrial environments

Experience delivering self-perform construction programs

Project Management Professional (PMP), AIPM or equivalent qualification

Working knowledge of project delivery and capital governance frameworks
