About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent Fixed Plant to join our leadership team at Gudai-Darri. This is a great opportunity to lead a skilled operations and maintenance team, focused on delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant performance. You’ll be responsible for daily plant operation and maintenance activity.

You’ll be part of a motivated, supportive, and friendly team, with leadership that will back your personal and professional growth. This role works on 9 days on, 5 days off roster, giving you more time for the people and things that matter to you.

Reporting to the Manager Fixed Plant, you will:   

• Lead a large team of operators and maintainers and manage Fixed Plant Maintenance and Operation activities to maximise productivity while minimising cost and environmental impact
• Work closely with shutdown and capital projects teams to meet business targets
• Build and promote a strong safety culture, ensuring safety is always the top priority. Conduct quality field time with the team and lead safety investigations
• Collaborate closely with other functions and stakeholders in the performance of duties
• Work closely with the engineering, planning and scheduling teams (MP&E) to ensure effective maintenance
• Promote continuous improvement by identifying and delivering plant performance improvements using Rio Tinto best practices
• Provide quality control on maintenance process, including reviewing the problem-solving sessions and 5 whys process completed by direct reports
• Ensure maintenance and operation activities are carried out safely, according to plan and cost effectively
• Manage budgets and ensure capital and operational funds are used wisely, while encouraging cost awareness

 Where you’ll be working 

This role is offered on 9 days on, 5 days off family friendly roster, FIFO from Perth to Gudai-Darri. (Day shift only)

Our Gudai-Darri iron ore mine is our most technologically advanced mine. In addition to leveraging technology already in use across Rio Tinto, such as autonomous trucks, trains and drills, Gudai-Darri also has more than 70 design innovations including a reclaimer with a rotable bucket wheel, a world class laboratory and in-field access to data and systems for all team members.

The Caterpillar mining fleet at Gudai-Darri includes autonomous trucks, production drills, and in a world first, autonomous water carts. 

Located 110km north-west of Newman, Gudai-Darri will produce up to 43 million tonnes of iron ore a year in its first phase, contributing to our flagship product, the Pilbara Blend™. It will also become a production hub for our iron ore business, incorporating world class infrastructure and a 166-kilometre rail line connecting the mine to our existing network.

Gudai-Darri is creating jobs and business opportunities in Western Australia. More than 2,000 people have been employed as part of its construction with approximately 600 permanent operational roles created.
