About the role

Join our inclusive Maintenance, Planning & Engineering (MPE) function here at Rio Tinto, as an Engineer Maintenance within the Fixed Plant team, where you will have the opportunity to provide technical assistance, support, and expert advice on continuous improvement practices across on a day-to-day basis to Fixed Plant Maintenance.

Nestle yourself residentially within the community of Pannawonica, or FIFO from Perth on a lifestyle focused roster of 8 days on, 6 days off.

Reporting to the MP&E Engineering Superintendent, you will be responsible for :

• Maintain strict compliance with Rio Tinto health and safety standards and promptly report hazards

• Provide technical support to maintenance teams, including planning, prioritising, troubleshooting breakdowns, and supporting PM02/PM03 scope development

• Conduct root cause and equipment failure analysis, implement corrective actions, and review equipment performance to recommend improvements

• Support and participate in Fixed Plant safety initiatives by identifying safety risks, contributing to investigations, and helping implement fit‑for‑purpose engineering and maintenance safety improvements

• Oversee data quality, monitor daily KPIs, and contribute to asset reliability strategies, maintenance tactics, and risk analysis

• Identify and lead maintainability and efficiency improvements, including design input, precision maintenance, hydrocarbon management, and containment actions

• Support asset recovery, ensure maintenance QA and adherence to executive standards, and help embed business processes (e.g., ABS Manage Physical Assets)

• Coach and mentor maintenance teams, and manage site-based capital projects while coordinating with sustaining capital teams when required

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: 

• Experience working in engineering or maintenance roles, ideally within a fixed plant or MEM environment

• Able to work well in small teams or independently, showing flexibility and adaptability

• Skilled in Defect Elimination and Root Cause Analysis processes

• Proven experience delivering Continuous Improvement initiatives and projects

• Strong understanding of budgets, asset criticality, cost drivers, asset risks, performance, and life cycles

• Knowledgeable in SAP or similar Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

• Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodology; Black Belt certification is an advantage

• Bachelor of Engineering (relevant discipline) or equivalent technical experience

• Current ‘C’ Class Driver's License (Manual)
