About the role

We are looking for a Hygiene Coordinator to ensure compliance with all Occupational Health and Hygiene standards, policies, laws, and regulations, while coordinating the Health and Hygiene team and working closely with Operations and Maintenance teams to support health and industrial hygiene responsibilities.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated, safety‑focused individual to contribute to continuous improvement in Health and Hygiene performance through the promotion of awareness and safe work practices, working Monday to Friday at the Iron Ore Company of Canada mine site in Labrador City, NL.

Enjoy the outdoors year-round; camping, fishing, hunting, hiking and boating throughout the summer and fall seasons. Winter thrills include groomed snowmobile trails, snowshoeing trails, alpine and cross-country skiing, including night skiing, often beneath the Northern Lights.

Reporting to the Superintendent Safety & Hygiene and working in a collaborative community within Safety team, you will be:

• Work safely in accordance with Rio Tinto safety standards, actively supporting safety initiatives and promoting a “Zero-harm” culture

• Supervise and coordinate the daily work of unionised industrial hygiene technicians and external consultants

• Collaborate closely with occupational health colleagues, operations teams and health and safety representatives to identify and resolve industrial hygiene issues

• Lead or oversee inspections, investigations and professional assessments aimed at preventing occupational illness and improving overall employee health

• Conduct audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance with health, safety, environment and quality requirements

• Implement effective controls to eliminate or reduce exposure risks, including engineering solutions, administrative measures, appropriate personal protective equipment, and the management of chemical products, inventories, safe usage, storage and worker education.

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

• A post-secondary certificate or diploma in health, hygiene, safety, or a related field

• A minimum of three years of experience in an industrial health environment or in occupational hygiene within the mining sector

• Demonstrated leadership abilities, with strong communication skills and the capacity to work effectively in a team-based environment

• Intermediate proficiency with standard office software tools; experience with enterprise resource planning systems is considered an asset

• Additional training or certifications are considered assets, including respirator fit testing, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, air sampling, and noise monitoring
