The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underground Superintendent Production Planning to lead a small team of experienced engineers. It develops and applies engineering standards and procedures and provides advice on issues, including problem solving and the assessment of new technologies to ensure accurate and reliable schedules for execution.

In particular, the role works to ensure the plan is achievable by planning mining activities for our Budget and Long Term Plans. This function requires receiving inputs from multiple departments, analyzing data, and creating plans that reflect the most up to date inputs and learnings from historical performance.

What the role entails

The purpose of this role is to lead the Planning team function of preparing production schedules for the Annual Budget and Long Term Plans, and work on improvement projects within Planning, whilst also undertaking the role of Competent Person for the UG Ore Reserves statements (JORC, NI 43-101 etc). Secondary functions of the role is to coach and lead the Planning team to best practice in the ramp up of the Underground to 95ktpd. The role provides services and supports the Mine Planning activities of the organizational unit in large complex environment in line with the company policies and procedures to achieve the department's objectives and targeted plan.

What you will need for this role

·       Support daily functions of the UG Technical Services team, reporting to the Principal Advisor

·       Undertake the role of Competent Person for the UG Ore Reserves statements (JORC, NI 43-101 etc).

·       Support & coach team members on daily tasks and career development through Rio Tinto's established processes.

·       Develop and maintain the Production and Development Models required for Long Term Planning and Budget planning processes compliant to the Time Usage Model, Rio Tinto Mine Planning Framework and Theory of Constraints

·       Ensure Cave Draw Strategies are compliant to the Cave Management Plan and are planned within the constraints and requirements of the business Long Term Plan, Operational constraints, and geotechnical constraints and guidance.

·       Develop Life of Mine Cave draw plans for annual budgeting purposes

·       Maintain Reconciliation and Cave Calibration processes

·       Built robust QAQC checking processing compliant to the Rio Tinto Mine Planning Framework

·       Develop and maintain team competencies and packages compliant to the Rio Tinto Mine Planning Framework

·       Support the Monthly Planning team in the development of Rolling Monthly forecasts and provide guidance on Cave Draw Control management and reconciliation of that plan.

·       Develop and sustain the engagement model as per the Mine Planning Calendar to ensure a highly consultative and integrated process with project stakeholders.

·       Coordinate the development of guidelines to enable accurate Risk Adjusted P50 Planning in both ramp up and steady state phases of the mine plan

·       Regular underground inspections of mining activities and accountable work areas to ensure:

o   compliance with intended plan,

o   provide visible leadership in the field.

·       Assist and manage improvement projects within the scope of the mining team.

·       Generate, in conjunction with other mining departments and contractors Work procedures, JHA’s and Risk assessments.

·       Respond to technical questions from other departments and liaise throughout development phase with construction teams.

·       Develop & improve MOS documentation to enable effective department function.

·       Training of Junior engineers
