About the role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor to join our Pilbara Environment and Cultural Knowledge team in Perth (with occasional site travel). Leading a team of technical experts on fauna species, ecology and management of the Pilbara region, this role will be engaged on a permanent full-time basis.

This role is a great opportunity for a motivated, safety-conscious professional to join a multi-disciplined team; applying knowledge of relevant legislation and technical guides to Pilbara-focused Government and Environmental Approvals; and to contribute to a regional understanding of environmental values to inform future planning.

Reporting to the Manager for Pilbara Environment and Cultural Knowledge, you will:

• Lead a team of technical professionals to acquire and integrate biological and scientific knowledge, to enable resource access

• Develop and deliver work plans and budgets aligned with the RTIO Strategy

• Collaborate and partner with key stakeholders to drive alignment on strategic decisions and long-term approval plans across the business.

• Manage the capability and development needs of the team, actively managing talent and ensure resourcing aligns to objectives & needs of the business.

• Engage with Government agencies and Regulators in relation to approvals, prevailing government legislation & policy.

• Advise on State and Federal approval/legislation implementation, legal interpretation and reporting requirements for matters relating to biodiversity.

• Use data driven insights to provide advice and recommendations on management response actions to operational and functional leadership teams​ at both asset and broader regional scales.

• Understand biodiversity risks and opportunities at a landscape and regional scale

• Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities including assessment methods, processes and technologies

• Drive an inclusive, respectful culture through collaboration with peers across the broader team

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

• A C Class Manual drivers licence

• Tertiary qualifications in an environmental discipline or related fields

• Demonstrated leadership experience, ideally within the resources or similar sector

• Problem-solving, prioritisation and analytical skills coupled with an ability to think on your feet and make informed decisions

• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to quickly develop positive and robust relationships with stakeholders

Where you’ll be working

You and your team will be Perth-based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. There will be the opportunity for some Pilbara site travel from time to time, however this will be done on an ad-hoc basis.
