About the role

We are looking for a Vessel Operator who will be responsible for operating vessels and providing subject matter expertise for the daily execution of allocated voyage and time-chartered vessels.

The incumbent in this position is not only accountable for the efficient execution of allocated voyages but also for maximizing the profitability of every voyage in close cooperation with the vessel master’s and commercial teams with productivity focus and critical thinking. This role may require direct communication with ship masters to advise, monitor and action on-water and port interface activities as required to maintain operational integrity.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Panamax Operations, you will:

• Ensures team for safe and efficient execution of voyage against Charter Party agreements and within Regulation & Standards, company policy and safety requirements at all times.

• Develop and issue voyage instructions and manage voyage formalities and Ensure vessels are available when and where needed.

• Engage with Shipowners/Clients pertaining to all post-fixture communications, ensuring all necessary operational information are managed and passed on timely

• Work with fuel procurement team to execute bunkering plans and strategies.

• Work with Vetting and Marine Assurance team and assist in conducting safety survey of vessels. Actively manage incidents arising onboard the vessels for proper close out by Owners

• Responsible for maximising profitability of every voyage in close cooperation with the commercial team and accountability for P&L on voyages and able to manage/explain variances.

• Using relevant performance tools monitor, manage and report fleet performance & efficiency and responsible for Post voyage analysis and review.

• Oversee the scheduling and coordination of vessel operations, ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations, and adjusting plans as needed for any unforeseen circumstances.

• Evaluate and mitigate risks associated with voyage operations, working with relevant teams to resolve operational challenges promptly.

• Foster and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, including vessel owners, clients, agents and terminals, to ensure seamless operations.

• Ensure timely and accurate documentation for all voyage-related activities, maintaining operational transparency and supporting audits.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• A Degree/Diploma in Marine or a related field.

• At least 3 years of experience in a bulk ship operator role.

• Experience in managing voyages, optimizing operational efficiency, and controlling costs.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, vessel owners, and internal stakeholders.

• Strong numerical and analytical skills to assess performance, identify variances, and make data-driven decisions.

• Sound negotiation skills.

• IMOS experience and proficiency in other relevant maritime software and tools.

• A good team player.

• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing operational conditions.

• Knowledge of maritime safety regulations, environmental standards, and best practices in vessel operations.

Headquartered in Singapore, and integrated with Rio Tinto’s assets, hubs, and offices globally, our Commercial group works hand-in-hand with our product groups to ensure both the amount and types of products we produce meet our customer’s needs, and manage the trade-off between volumes, quality,cost and capital expenditure.
