About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Advisor Closure to join the team at Rio Tinto. In this role you will primarily lead asset closure strategies that strengthen partnership and balance environmental, financial and social risks. You will also have the opportunity to lead closure planning principles at all stages of the asset life cycle.

As the Senior Advisor Closure, you will report to the Principal Rehab & Closure and responsibility over the following duties :

• Support a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace for employees and contractors
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement through mentoring, identifying, evaluating and implementing improvement opportunities
• Contribute to positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Support implementation of guided partnership opportunities to enable objectives and RTIO’s license to operate
• Collate and deliver effective communications to internal and external stakeholders
• Work autonomously to plan, manage and deliver work to a high standard. Receives minimal guidance and direction from leader
• Ensure integration of closure planning principles into studies, mine planning and operational decisions across life cycle of assets across hub
• Lead targeted stakeholder engagement on closure to inform studies, approvals and asset closure planning within hub
• Champion closure, foster collaboration and two-way sharing of information with key internal stakeholders
• Provide closure guidance to peers, Specialists and asset teams
• Contribute to the development and delivery of the R&C 5-year strategic plan and annual plan. Identify, manage and/or deliver technical and strategic projects across hub
• Lead and support delivery of closure planning requirements to support Part IV approvals, compliance, inter-studies and studies across hub
• Ensure closure risk register/s across hub are managed
• Ensure conformance with the RioTinto Closure Standard across hub
• Partner to coordinate and deliver Asset Closure Strategies (ACSs) and internal/external audits as required

What you’ll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• A C Class Manual driver’s license
• Critical thinking and ability to synthesise information into clear narrative
• Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership
• Capacity to manage several activities and issues at any given time
• Strong technical understanding and experience in closure planning
• Experience in stakeholder engagement particularly Regulators and Traditional Owners
• Strong planning and project management
• Experience in risk management
• Experience in studies and operational support
• Tertiary or University level qualifications in relevant field

Where you’ll be working

You and your team will be Perth-based with opportunity to work flexibly from home combined with time in our Central Park offices. There will be the opportunity for some Pilbara site travel from time to time, however this will be done on an ad-hoc basis.
