We are looking for a Superintendent to manage a portfolio of projects or programs within our engineering framework, ensuring timely and effective delivery. The role includes leading a small team of Project Managers and, depending on priorities, directly managing key projects. All work must align with Rio Tinto’s safety, health, environment, and procurement standards (The Way We Work).

Reporting to the Manager of Projects and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

• Leading by example in safety and compliance, ensuring adherence to all HSE regulations, standards, and Rio Tinto’s safety culture.
• Driving successful delivery of the project portfolio in alignment with engineering strategy—meeting safety, scope, schedule, and cost objectives.
• Applying and promoting project management best practices, tools, and systems to ensure efficiency, consistency, and compliance across all initiatives.
• Preparing, managing, and controlling project and portfolio budgets, including both capital and operating expenses, with a focus on cost.
• Overseeing procurement and technical strategies, ensuring effective planning, cost control, and value-driven decision-making across projects.
• Fostering collaboration and stakeholder engagement, maintaining strong relationships with internal and external partners.
• Championing continuous improvement, identifying and implementing enhancements in project management processes and systems.
• Directly managing key high-priority projects, and actively mobilize and lead cross-functional project teams when required.

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
• Degree in Engineering or a related discipline; advanced education in project management (e.g., PMP certification or a Master’s in Project Management) is considered an asset.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a production, industrial, or project-based environment.
• Minimum of 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role, with the ability to set direction, prioritize effectively, achieve results, and engage your team through active listening, coaching, and motivation.
• Thorough understanding of organizational policies and standard practices.
• Familiarity with Rio Tinto’s Project Management Framework and portfolio management processes is an asset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
• Clear, concise, and tactful communication
• A minimum of a BC Class 7 driver’s license or equivalent.

The base salary range for this role is $129,600 – $194,400 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
