About the role 

The Master Data Advisor role leads master data governance for Utilities and Rail, with a key focus on Utilities. You’ll own the governance framework, drive uplift and assurance activities, and support operational readiness for sustaining capital projects.
 

Alongside project integration, you’ll manage BAU master data processes, including task lists, BOMs, hierarchy structures, and RTTMS change requests.

The role is critical in ensuring Utilities data is accurate, standardised, and ready to support safe and efficient operations.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead and maintain master data governance frameworks for Utilities and Rail, ensuring alignment to Rio Tinto standards and lifecycle principles.

• Drive governance uplift and assurance activities across Utilities, including risk identification, control application, and maturity improvement.

• Support operational readiness for Utilities sustaining capital projects by coordinating data validation, structure reviews, and shutdown-critical object readiness.

• Manage end-to-end BAU master data processes—including task lists, BOMs, functional locations, and RTTMS change requests—with a strong focus on quality and system alignment.

• Apply governance frameworks to ensure data quality, structure consistency, and readiness for both operational and project integration scenarios.

• Influence and collaborate with planning, maintenance, engineering, and project stakeholders to embed consistent master data practices.

• Coach and support internal and offshore master data resources to drive delivery, uplift capability, and maintain process discipline in a lean team environment.

• Provide subject matter input into MoC processes, ensuring appropriate validation and alignment of master data changes.

• Act as the functional contact for SAP master data roles, coordinating system access and change control for critical data objects.

What you’ll bring  

• Strong understanding of SAP master data structures and lifecycle management

• Demonstrated experience in shutdown or asset readiness support, including validation of asset and maintenance structures

• Experience applying governance frameworks to data quality and system readiness

• Ability to influence and coordinate cross-functional stakeholders in uplift or integration activities

• Proven ability to coach others and drive process consistency in a lean or matrixed team structure

• Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills

• Familiarity with Rio Tinto’s SPS model, maintenance work management processes, and digital asset systems preferred

Where you’ll be working 

This role is based in the Perth CBD at Rio Tinto’s Central Park, supporting the Utilities Division.
 

Utilities is responsible for operating and maintaining critical infrastructure across power generation, water, waste water, hydrocarbons, site communications, and transmission networks—servicing Pilbara mines, supply chain assets, and remote townships across a vast geographic footprint.
 

From Perth, you will support governance, master data quality, and operational readiness across these essential services. You’ll work closely with site-based teams, sustaining capital, and engineering stakeholders to ensure that Utilities data structures enable safe, reliable, and efficient operations across one of the most complex asset bases in the Rio Tinto network.
