About the role

We are looking for a Safety Coordinator Mine to support the Labrador City operation by providing expert guidance, coaching and assurance, while ensuring alignment with safety maturity expectations, performance standards, critical risk management practices, risk assessments, safety inspections, safety meetings, and all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements.

This is a great opportunity for a proactive and safety‑driven professional to drive continuous improvement in safety performance by actively influencing and promoting Safe Production Systems, while working on a site‑based roster.

Enjoy the outdoors year-round; camping, fishing, hunting, hiking and boating throughout the summer and fall seasons. Winter thrills include groomed snowmobile trails, snowshoeing trails, alpine and cross-country skiing, including night skiing, often beneath the Northern Lights.

Reporting to the Superintendent Safety & Hygiene and working in a collaborative community within Safety team, you will be:

• Provide advice and support to area departments to ensure operating and maintenance activities are designed, planned and executed in alignment with Rio Tinto safety systems and in compliance with provincial and federal regulations

• Promote and support consistent application of safety practices, including close collaboration with engineering teams and effective engagement of contractors

• Support safety investigations by coaching leaders and advisors on report preparation, recommendations, corrective and preventive actions, and by ensuring lessons learned are shared across sites

• Monitor safety performance indicators and provide meaningful insights to drive continuous improvement in workplace safety

• Coach leaders and frontline workers on risk management practices, including hazard identification, implementation of controls, leadership in the field and effective safety meetings

• Coordinate assurance activities, site‑based initiatives and safety plans that strengthen safety maturity, promote health and wellbeing, and ensure the effectiveness of risk controls

What you’ll bring

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

• A technical diploma in health and safety

• A minimum of three years of experience in a comparable industrial environment, such as mining, processing, manufacturing or a related field

• Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team

• Demonstrated capability to build strong relationships, influence stakeholders and deliver results

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Solid computer skills, including experience with web‑based systems and standard office software tools.
