About the role:

The Integrated Maintenance Planning Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end coordination, planning, and communication of all major maintenance, shutdown activities, budgeting and asset lifecyle planning across the mine site. This role ensures alignment and integration of maintenance shutdown plans with rail and port operations to maintain seamless operational continuity across the entire network.

Key responsibilities include:

• Shutdown Planning & Coordination: Develop and manage comprehensive major maintenance shut plans for all site activities, ensuring alignment with operational priorities, production schedules, and maintenance schedules.

• Cross-Network Integration: Serve as the primary liaison for mine site shutdown planning, facilitating timely and accurate communication with rail and port operations to ensure network-wide coordination.

• Asset Life Cycle Planning: Facilitate long-term planning for the replacement and refurbishment of mine assets. Integrate asset life cycle strategies into shutdown planning to ensure timely execution of major replacements and upgrades. Align shut plans with capital projects and asset renewal programs.

• Maintenance Budgeting: Responsible for overseeing the site maintenance Zero-Based Budgeting (ZBB) process and ongoing reforecasting to ensure budgeting accuracy and alignment with operational priorities.

• Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, to communicate shut plans, resolve conflicts, and optimise resource allocation.

• Risk Management & Contingency Planning: Identify potential risks and interdependencies across the network, and develop mitigation strategies to minimise operational disruptions.

• Continuous Improvement: Support integrated and life cycle planning initiatives by contributing to the development of planning tools, processes, and reporting frameworks that enhance visibility and decision-making across the value chain.

• Performance Monitoring: Track execution of shut plans, analyse outcomes, and provide feedback to improve future planning cycles.

Qualifications & Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Maintenance Management or a related discipline.

• Minimum 5+ years’ experience in maintenance planning, with at least 2–3 years in shutdown planning within mining, oil & gas, or heavy industry.

• Strong understanding of integrated operations across mine, rail, and port.

• Proficiency in planning software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project, SAP).

• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

• Experience working in remote or FIFO mining operations, preferably within mining, oil & gas, or heavy industry.

• Fluent in English required

• Proficiency in French desirable

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
