About the role

We are looking for a Supervisor Closure Legacy to join our Closure Legacy team at Argyle, supporting the safe and compliant delivery of field-based environmental monitoring programs in line with the Argyle Monitoring and Maintenance Plan.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to Argyle’s next chapter by helping deliver safe, compliant and culturally respectful closure outcomes in a unique remote environment.

Reporting to the Superintendent Closure Legacy, you will coordinate contractors, support environmental sampling, manage monitoring equipment and systems, and validate, analyse and report environmental data to identify trends, risks, improvement opportunities and compliance matters. You will also support monitoring-related budgets, purchase orders, invoices and contracts.

This practical, site-based role works closely with Rio Tinto teams, contractors, consultants, regulators, Traditional Owners and Indigenous-owned businesses to support lasting closure outcomes that respect cultural heritage and strengthen community relationships.

About you

You are a safety-focused and practical field leader with strong environmental monitoring experience and the confidence to work autonomously in remote locations. You will play an important role in maintaining relationships with Traditional Owners, with demonstrated cultural competency to do so.  You bring a calm, organised and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work effectively with contractors, internal teams and external stakeholders.

To be successful in the role, you will bring:

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.

• Support coordinating scopes, tenders, timelines, budgets and deliverables for environmental monitoring and rehabilitation work.

• Strong contractor management skills and experience

• Experience in environmental monitoring, including water sampling, environmental data collection, and the use of monitoring equipment and technology.

• A Certificate in Environmental Management (or equivalent).

• A current Western Australian manual driver's licence.

• Strong technical capability in interpreting water quality data, understanding environmental regulations, and preparing monitoring reports.

• Clear and professional communication skills, with experience working collaboratively with contractors, internal stakeholders, Traditional Owners, Indigenous communities, and Indigenous-owned businesses.

• Strong time management skills, the ability to work autonomously in remote locations, and

It will also be important that you are willing to obtain relevant technical licences and certificates, including S26 Statutory Supervisor and Senior First Aid certification.

Where you’ll be working

The Argyle diamond mine is located on the traditional country of the Miriwoong, Gija, Malgnin and Wularr people in Western Australia. We acknowledge the Dawang / Daam groups who are the Traditional Owners of the Barramundi Dreaming – the Tiltuwam, Mandangala, Yunurr / Yalangga, Neminuwarlin, Balaburr, Bilbildjing and Upper Jimbila people.

Argyle was one of the world’s largest producers of diamonds and the largest supplier of natural coloured diamonds – including white, yellow, brown, blue, violet and the rare and the highly-coveted Argyle pink and red diamonds.

Mining ceased at Argyle in November 2020, after 37 years of operation. 

We are committed to respectfully closing and rehabilitating the mine and returning the land to its traditional custodians.
