About the role

We are looking for a Control Systems Engineer to support the Weipa process and export Operations.
This role is a great opportunity for an experienced Electrical and Control Systems Engineer to provide breakdown support, maintenance, disaster recovery management and system development for the instrumentation and control systems across the bauxite processing and export operations. The role will be based in Weipa working a 9 day fortnight.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Electrical and Control engineer:
- Scoping, implementing and evaluating new and existing projects across the Weipa Operation;
- Fault finding process control related issues;
- Utilising the Rockwell suite of software to maintain and upgrade the plant control system environment and the Ethernet communications network
- Writing and modifying PLC programs using RSLogix5000, mostly ladder logic
- Developing SCADA interfaces in FT Asset Centre in conjunction with plant operators and maintainers
- Provide instrumentation support to maintenance teams
- Network fault finding
What you will bring
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- A Bachelor’s Engineering degree in either Computing Systems, Electrical, Control Systems, Mechatronics,
- 5 years demonstrated control systems experience;
- RS Logix Fundamentals
- FactoryTalk View SE, Historian and PlantPAX
- Functional Safety of machines TÜV Rheinland certification
- The ability to work as part of a small high performing team, taking accountability for your tasks;
- Ability to work alone in a high stress production environment, including being on call
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt your communication style to your audience.

Weipa is home to one of Rio Tinto’s largest bauxite operations globally, located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland. The Weipa operations include open-cut mines, processing facilities, rail infrastructure, ports and shiploading operations that support the production and export of bauxite to global markets.
With a long history in the region, Weipa plays a critical role in Rio Tinto’s aluminium supply chain, producing bauxite that is used to create alumina and aluminium for customers around the world.
Operating on Traditional Owner land, we work closely with local communities to support long-term economic and social outcomes while respecting cultural heritage.
