We are looking for a site-based Environment Adviser to join our HSE team at Bell Bay Aluminium. In this role you will partner with our operations and stakeholders to champion environmental performance. Reporting to the Superintendent Environment and Analytical and working in a collaborative team of environmental professionals within the Environment and Analytical BBA team, you will be:
- Interfacing with on-site personnel to promote environmental goals and solve environmental issues including performing inspections to assess compliance risks
- Provide technical environmental advice and guidance to the operational teams to improve environmental performance.
- Preparing and submitting compliance reports and data required to comply with our license to operate.
- Managing environmental issues, for example: surface water quality, stormwater management, monitoring, waste management, groundwater quality, emissions to air, incident reporting and hydrocarbon/contamination management
- Delivering and participating in audits (internal & external).
- Implementing and verifying the business’ environmental management system
- Providing environmental advice in the interpretation of legislation, acts and regulations
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Excellent communication and partnering skills with the ability to work independently
- A Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental, Engineering or related discipline with knowledge of key concepts theories and practices related to environmental aspects & impacts, risk management, State and Federal Legislation and environmental management systems
- Experience with Management Systems ISO 14001 and the Tasmanian Environment regulatory framework (desired)
- Relevant industry (large scale smelting, processing or chemical manufacturing) or mining experience
- Demonstrated experience in executing work in air, water and waste management aspects.
- Willingness to get hands on with problem solving and improvement
- Strong attitude towards safety and improvement
- Resilience and a dynamic approach to problem solving

Where you'll be working
Our Bell Bay Aluminium smelter began operating in 1955 and holds a unique place in Tasmanian and Australian history as the first aluminium smelter in the Southern Hemisphere.
Based approximately 50 kilometres from Launceston in Northern Tasmania, the smelter produces primary aluminium products. We have a long and proud history in Tasmania of supporting our community and are committed to building enduring relationships built on mutual respect, collaboration, and genuine partnership.
