We are looking for a Rehabilitation Advisor to support the co-ordination and execution of key rehabilitation programs to facilitate the operating requirements in relation to regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
This role is a great opportunity an experienced Environmental professional to contribute to the success of our Rehabilitation program whilst advancing their career with a global mining leader. Reporting to the Superintendent Land & Rehabilitation, you will be:
- Developing and maintaining rehabilitation programs which focus on risk mitigation to the business and ensure operations are in compliance with the Sites’ Environmental Authority
- Providing advice on technical and strategic environmental issues especially with relevance to the rehabilitation process
- Supporting and liaising with key internal stakeholders from mine planning, development, land and rehabilitation crews and operational teams to achieve successful rehabilitation earthworks outcomes
- Managing the successful and sustainable seed procurement program and seed handling process
- Developing and leading strategically focused research and technical projects including post-mining rehabilitation methods, completion criteria monitoring, seed utilisation, and flora& fauna monitoring
- Maintaining and further developing stakeholder engagement plans and programs
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Qualifications in environmental science, engineering agricultural science or related discipline
- Experience with land rehabilitation strategy and management programs
- Experience leading research projects
- Previous experience in managing multiple contractors and consultants in regards to environmental studies
It will also be beneficial if you have:
- Experience using GIS
- Knowledge and Experience using data analytical and statistical tools
- Experience in land rehabilitation completion criteria

Rio Tinto Weipa is located 900km north-west of Cairns on the Gulf of Carpentaria and has been operating for over 50 years. Over the years, it has developed into a vibrant and diverse cultural hub of the Western Cape. Weipa offers a coastal community rich in geographical beauty and cultural heritage that provides families with opportunities to participate in leisure activities, sports and community events.
With a strong sense of community, the region has plenty of natural beauty to offer including the opportunities for boating, fishing, camping and exploring. Construction of the Amrun mining operation, located 40 kilometres southwest of Weipa, was completed in late 2018 expanding our bauxite operations to continue production from one of the world’s premier bauxite deposits.
