About the role
RT Iron Ore has portside trading via the China ports through a WOFE in China. Portside is a critical lever in the iron ore value chain, supporting value protection, customer access and optionality. This role is on the front lines, ensuring Rio Tinto remains competitive, disciplined, and responsive in the Chinese market.
Reporting to the Manager Finance and Business Services, you will undertake the following responsibilities in context of portside trading:
Sales and Customer Management

Responsible for achieving the sales target for assigned portfolio.

Management and execution of portside market and sales strategy in the assigned region, including sales execution, administration of contracts and customer relationship management.

Accountable for optimal customer segmentation, and provide sales solutions to targeted customers in support for business objectives

Participate, and lead end to end customer solutions, from achieving satisfied solutioning for existing customers, to development and cultivation of new potential client base.

Responsible for development and maintaining customer relationships
Stakeholder Engagement
-
Work closely with port operations team in ensuring optimal scheduling, allocation, and delivery of products to end customers.

Collect market intelligence when applicable and translate the information internally to relevant team for further analysis and use.

Support the internal team to develop regional products and pricing strategy

Coach and guide junior sales members.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
-
Bachelor’s degree or above.
-
Fluency in Mandarin and English.
-
Around 5 years of commodity sales experience in a multinational environment.
-
Solid understanding of the iron and steel industry is strongly preferred.
-
Other bulk commodities and similar value chain can be considered.
-
Proven track record in leading win-win commercial negotiations.
-
Strong commercial acumen and analytical capability, with passion in achieving commercial performance.

Strong communication, presentation and influencing abilities.
-
Demonstrated experience in prioritizing and working through a networked organization in achieving results.
-
Self-motivated to develop a new market from ground zero.
-
Strong interpersonal skills and communication abilities to build relationships with different ranges of stakeholders.

Possess agility to thrive in a dynamic fast-changing environment.

Good at negotiation and deal making to optimize profit.

Can travel extensively up to 75% of working time.
