About the role
We are looking for a Senior Advisor – Global Tax Transformation & Operations (Southern Hemisphere) to support the delivery of income tax compliance, reporting and advisory activities across Rio Tinto's operations in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Singapore.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced tax professional who enjoys business partnering with finance and operational stakeholders, solving complex tax challenges and driving process improvement. Working within a high-performing global tax team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality tax outcomes while supporting transformation and continuous improvement initiatives across the function.
Reporting to the Manager – Global Tax Transformation & Operations (Southern Hemisphere), you will:
- Partner with finance and operational teams to provide advice on income tax matters and support business decision-making
- Deliver income tax compliance and reporting activities, including tax effect accounting calculations, income tax returns and tax disclosures
- Prepare technical tax advice, position papers and supporting documentation for transactions, projects and business initiatives
- Support relationships with tax authorities, including preparing responses to requests for information and regulatory enquiries
- Identify, manage and escalate tax risks while ensuring compliance with Rio Tinto tax policies, controls and governance requirements
- Lead process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, standardisation and risk management outcomes
- Collaborate across the Global Tax team to support projects, share knowledge and provide specialist tax expertise
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve tax processes through automation, technology and AI-enabled solutions
About you
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Significant experience in corporate tax gained within a professional services firm, commercial organisation, tax authority or a combination of these environments
- Strong technical knowledge of corporate income tax, tax compliance and tax effect accounting requirements
- Experience preparing tax advice, tax calculations, income tax returns and supporting governance documentation
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters to finance, commercial and operational stakeholders
- Professional qualification such as CA ANZ, CPA or CTA, together with a degree in Commerce, Taxation, Law or a related discipline

Where you'll be working
You will be part of Rio Tinto's Global Tax Transformation & Operations team, which supports tax compliance, reporting and transformation activities across multiple jurisdictions. Based in Perth (preferred), with Brisbane considered, you will work closely with colleagues across the global tax function, finance teams, operational stakeholders and external advisers to deliver high-quality tax outcomes and continuous improvement initiatives.
