About the role
We are looking for a Reliability Engineer to improve asset performance by identifying and managing reliability risks that could affect plant or business operations. You will apply reliability engineering and asset management methods to optimize the balance of asset risk, cost and performance while supporting safe, reliable production.
This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys using equipment data, structured problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration to eliminate defects, strengthen maintenance strategies and improve the lifecycle performance of industrial assets.
Reporting to the Superintendent of Reliability and working within the Rio Tinto Kennecott Maintenance team, you will be:
What you’ll be doing
- Facilitate the site defect elimination program and lead reliability improvement initiatives from problem definition through implementation and value tracking.
- Use root cause analysis methods to identify equipment and process failure causes, develop solutions and support sustainable corrective actions.
- Develop and continuously improve maintenance tactics for new and existing assets using Reliability Centered Maintenance and Planned Maintenance Optimization methods.
- Perform reliability studies, reliability block modeling and lifecycle cost analysis to support asset strategies and investment decisions.
- Analyze equipment, work order and maintenance history data from computerized maintenance management systems such as SAP to identify trends, gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Use process historian and condition data to monitor and report on asset performance, improve data quality and identify emerging reliability risks.
- Apply Pareto analysis and other reliability tools to identify bottlenecks, prioritize resources and communicate the value delivered by improvement projects.
- Support the implementation and assurance of asset management systems, engineering standards and reliability practices while coaching and sharing learnings across Operations, Maintenance, Projects, Technical and site teams.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will bring:
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and practical reliability or field engineering experience.
- Relevant experience in reliability engineering, field engineering, maintenance engineering, asset management or a related industrial technical environment.
- Knowledge of reliability methods such as root cause analysis, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Planned Maintenance Optimization, defect elimination or lifecycle cost analysis.
- Experience using maintenance and equipment data to support decisions, ideally through SAP or another computerized maintenance management system and process-history or condition-monitoring tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, project coordination and stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to influence improvement across Operations, Maintenance, Projects and technical teams.
Helpful for success: Experience facilitating root cause analysis; developing maintenance tactics; integrating predictive and preventive maintenance technologies; using data visualization tools such as Power BI; or holding a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional, Certified Reliability Leader or relevant predictive-maintenance certification.
Even if your experience does not align with every helpful qualification, we encourage you to apply. Relevant transferable engineering and maintenance experience is valued.
