We're Finding Better Ways™ to provide materials the world needs, now and in the future. Our values – care, courage and curiosity – guide how we work and how we treat each other.
About the role
We are looking for a Senior Adviser Data SME to support the establishment and embedding of data governance, data quality reporting and metrics across the procurement P2P portfolio (MSMS). The role will work with business data owners, process owners and data stewards to translate agreed standards into practical controls, reporting and sustainable routines.
Initially, the role will support system integration testing, user acceptance testing and data validation, before moving toward a stronger focus on data quality and technical reporting. You will help transition governance activities from the Program into business-as-usual operations, with clear ownership, accountability and fit-for-purpose processes.
Reporting to the GPO Data Lead, you will work across our internal Procurement (MSMS GPO) team, business stakeholders, process owners and technology teams. This is an opportunity to turn an established governance strategy into practical delivery and lasting business outcomes.
What you'll be doing
- Embed data governance standards, ownership, business rules and stewardship practices across the MSMS GPO portfolio.
- Translate governance strategy into practical controls, schedules, working routines and business-as-usual responsibilities.
- Develop and maintain data quality reporting, metrics and key performance indicators that provide clear insights for business and Program stakeholders.
- Coordinate data quality activities, including validation, issue management, root-cause analysis, remediation tracking and prioritisation.
- Partner with data owners, data stewards, process owners and GPO stakeholders to clarify scope, accountability and decision rights.
- Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing and data validation, including triage and follow-up of data-related defects.
- Prepare and maintain governance documentation, controls, procedures, training materials and transition artefacts.
- Enable the transition of governance and data quality activities from the Program into sustainable business-as-usual operations.
About you
We’re looking for someone whose experience aligns with the key requirements below. You do not need to meet every “helpful for success” item to apply – if you bring relevant experience and are excited by the opportunity, we encourage you to submit an application.
Required for Success
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- Skills and Capabilities: Ability to translate established data governance strategies into practical controls, schedules, ownership models and sustainable operating routines.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience implementing or embedding data governance, data standards, ownership, stewardship and data quality practices in a master data environment for a large scale S4 ERP implementation.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated experience working with business data owners, data stewards, process owners and GPO stakeholders to establish scope, accountability and action.
- Systems and Processes: Practical understanding of enterprise resource planning procurement and Procure-to-Pay processes, supplier data, master data management and process governance.
- Delivery: Experience coordinating data validation, quality-control, testing or defect-management activities and translating findings into prioritised remediation.
Helpful for Success
- Experience supporting system integration testing and user acceptance testing in a large, complex business environment.
- Experience with data analysis, reporting or visualisation tools such as SQL, Python, Power BI or Alteryx.
- Experience preparing governance documentation, controls, procedures, training materials and business-as-usual transition artefacts.
- A background in process management, business management, procurement, supply chain or supplier data.
What We Offer
- Attractive compensation that is aligned to the specialist nature and impact of the role.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- A safety-focused and inclusive working environment.
- Career development to further your ambitions.
- Ongoing individual wellbeing support.

- Be part of Rio Tinto’s global Modern ERP transformation, contributing directly to one of the organisation’s most significant multi‑year programs.
