About the role
We are looking for a Senior Adviser Case Management to help Employee Relations Operations deliver consistent, timely and compliant case management across the APAC region. In this role, you’ll support Policy & Conduct and low-complexity Workplace Respect matters, workplace investigations, disciplinary processes, employee concerns and workforce case management activities, while working with Employee Relations, Legal, HR and business teams.
Based in Invercargill, this is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys navigating sensitive workforce matters and wants to strengthen fair employee outcomes, workforce relations and organisational risk management across operational environments.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the Superintendent Case Management, and working within the Employee Relations Operations model, you will be:
- Manage Policy & Conduct and low-level Workplace Respect matters through to resolution.
- Gather and assess evidence, documentation and case information to support workplace investigations and defensible case outcomes.
- Prepare investigation findings, case summaries, recommendations and documentation in line with organisational standards and regional legal requirements.
- Develop and recommend practical, balanced resolution approaches aligned with organisational policies and workforce expectations.
- Maintain accurate, complete and defensible employee relations case records, reporting and documentation within agreed service and governance standards.
- Apply employment legislation, industrial relations obligations, organisational policies, governance controls and documentation requirements consistently.
- Build and manage stakeholders relationships to guide and coach on employee relations processes, documentation standards and low-severity employee concerns, escalating high-risk, sensitive or complex matters appropriately.
- Collaborate across Employee Relations, Legal, HR and business teams, and identify recurring case themes, workforce risks and process improvement opportunities.
About you
We’re looking for someone whose experience aligns with the key requirements below. You do not need to meet every “helpful for success” item to apply. If you bring relevant experience and are excited by the opportunity, we encourage you to submit an application.
Required for Success
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- Demonstrated experience in employee relations, People Operations, workplace investigations or case management within an operational environment.
- Strong working knowledge of employee relations processes, disciplinary procedures, workplace conduct and relevant employment legislation or industrial relations obligations.
- Experience managing low to moderate complexity employee relations cases in a structured, fair and compliant manner.
- Strong investigation, fact-finding and documentation capability, including maintaining accurate and defensible case records.
- Sound judgement and organisational capability to manage sensitive matters and high case volumes, while escalating complex or high-risk issues appropriately.
Helpful for Success
- Experience supporting Policy & Conduct or Workplace Respect matters across diverse workforces.
- Experience identifying recurring workforce trends, risks and operational insights from case data.
- Experience collaborating with Employee Relations, Legal, HR, compliance, audit or regulatory stakeholders.
What we offer
- A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
- A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive program
- Comprehensive medical assistance scheme
- Attractive share ownership plan
- Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave) including long service leave
- Access to transport assistance between Invercargill and Tiwai.
- Competitive superannuation programme
- Career development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions
Where you’ll be working
New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter (NZAS) converts alumina into aluminium using renewable hydroelectricity, resulting in one of the lowest carbon footprints for an aluminium smelter in the world. The smelter is located on Tiwai Peninsula in Southland and the majority of the plant's alumina is supplied from our Yarwun and Queensland Alumina Limited refineries. Around 90% of the aluminium produced at NZAS is exported.
Applications close at 11:59pm local time on 15 November 2026 (Rio Tinto reserves the right to remove advertised roles prior to this date).
