We are looking for a Superintendent Plant and Rail Operations who thrives on improving plant, rail and out loading performance using effective analysis and influencing skills.

This role is a great opportunity for an operational or maintenance leader for the Processing, Rail and Export Operation. This involves operating the Andoom and East Weipa Beneficiation Plants and Stackers as well as the Stockyard and Export/Ship loader circuits which services the North Operations Ore Stream from load point to port. It also has a unique element of overseeing our Rail Operations and Rail Maintenance teams who are critical to consistent operation from our Andoom Operation.

This role has 6 direct reports and a workforce of over 90 employees plus contractors. Working a 44-hour week on a 9-day fortnight (Monday-Friday and Monday-Thursday) and reporting to the Manager Northern Operations, you will be:

• Coordinating Process & Export crews to safely meet targeted throughout 12 months of the year

• Coordinating Rail Ops shift crews to safely transport Andoom ore on the railway from Andoom to East Weipa Stockyards

• Maintaining the Rail track health to ensure the rolling stock can safely meet targets throughout 12 months of the year

• Coach and develop your crew leaders and step-up crew leaders to continuously improve the Process & Export operation

• Provide peer support to achieve the broader Weipa Portfolio objectives

What you will bring

• A manual ‘C’ class driver’s license

 It will also be beneficial if you have:

• Tertiary qualifications and experience within an appropriate discipline or background

• Understanding of the technical aspects involved in rail operations and rail maintenance

• Experience using business improvement methodologies such as KAIZEN, Lean Six Sigma and Change Management

Where you will be working

You will be supporting our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland, which includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals.
Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape, and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.
