About the role
We are looking for an Electrical Maintainer – Rail to join our Rail team in Weipa. In this role, you will safely maintain and support the reliability of our rolling stock fleet, including locomotives, wagons and track maintenance equipment, as well as rail signalling, control systems and workshop infrastructure.
Our rail assets play a critical role in supporting safe and efficient operations across the Weipa operation. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated tradesperson who enjoys problem-solving, takes pride in quality work, and wants to be part of a supportive team environment focused on continuous improvement and safety.
Reporting to the Rail Supervisor and working a 4,5,5,4 day only Lifestyle roster, you will:
- Maintain rolling stock, rail infrastructure and associated electrical systems in line with maintenance schedules
- Conduct fault finding, diagnostics and repairs to minimise downtime and maximise equipment reliability
- Perform inspections and preventative maintenance to Rio Tinto and OEM standards
- Support the maintenance of rail signalling and control systems
- Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance and technical stakeholders
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and work history within SAP and other maintenance systems
- Complete work management tasks and close-out activities in accordance with site processes
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reliability, safety and cost performance
- Participate in training and development opportunities while sharing knowledge across the team
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship and operational excellence
What you'll bring
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A strong commitment to your own safety and the safety of others
- Queensland A Grade Electrical Licence
- Demonstrated fault finding and diagnostic troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation
- Current Australian Manual C Class Driver's Licence
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to build positive working relationships
- The ability to work independently and adapt to changing operational priorities
- Previous rail industry experience, preferably within rolling stock, signalling or rail infrastructure maintenance
