About the role

We are looking for a Senior Project Controller to provide project controls support for Rio Tinto Closure Legacy across the Australia Pacific (APAC) region.

This is a great opportunity to further develop your project controls capability while contributing to safe, responsible and effective closure outcomes across a varied regional portfolio.

Reporting to the Global Project Controls Manager, with a dotted-line relationship into the Closure Legacy APAC team, you will work closely with Closure APAC team members, Site Managers, Study Leads and supporting functions including Finance, Procurement and Rio Tinto Projects. You will verify and report on cost and schedule performance for assigned assets and projects, support monthly and annual planning activities, and help compile reporting for stakeholder meetings, project reviews and routine project controls forums.

In this role, you will provide practical project controls advice to the Closure Legacy APAC team, including advisory support to the Closure Legacy APAC General Manager, and help identify opportunities to simplify, streamline and improve project controls work processes.

Working closely with regional and global stakeholders, you will be:

• Supporting monthly project controls activities, including budget tracking, forecasting, accruals, vendor management, invoicing verification and portfolio reporting.

• Coordinating planning inputs with Asset Managers and supporting functions such as Procurement, HSE, Communities and Social Performance, and Finance.

• Supporting Service Entry Sheets, purchase requisitions, purchase order tracking and related project controls processes.

• Analysing site information, cost and schedule variations, and providing recommendations to site teams.

• Collaborating with Site Leads to establish routine progress review meetings and strengthen reporting discipline.

• Managing relationships with internal project controls stakeholders and contracting partners.

• Ensuring required tools, processes and procedures are used consistently across assigned projects.

• Supporting global process improvements, regional training and presentations, and recruitment activity for project controls roles where required.

About you

You are a proactive and detail-focused project controls professional who enjoys working across complex portfolios, building strong relationships and turning data into clear, practical insights. You bring a collaborative approach, sound judgement and the confidence to work independently with a broad range of stakeholders.

You will bring:

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.

• Experience in project controls, including supporting project controls deliverables across a portfolio of projects.

• A strong understanding of project management and project controls concepts, including earned value management, forecasting and accruals.

• Advanced proficiency in SAP, Excel and Power BI.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• The ability to work independently as a self-starter, with strong attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.

• Knowledge or experience in change management.
